Businessman shot near his home on Nevis

By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes.com

CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – JUST two days after the Team Unity Government was highly praised by members of the faith-based community for stepping up its efforts to eradicate the scourge of crime and violence in the Federation, police on Nevis are busy investigating a shooting incident that left one man hospitalised.

Reports reaching SKNVibes, which were confirmed by the police, indicate that shortly before 8:00 p.m. yesterday (Aug. 19), a man was shot on Pinney’s Road in Nevis.

A police communiqué stated that investigations by the Violent Crimes Unit revealed that the man was shot by an unknown assailant or assailants while he was exiting his car on arrival at his Pinney’s Road residence.

It further stated that a family member had transported the injured 63-year-old to the Alexandra Hospital and that investigations are ongoing.

The police did not provide the victim’s name neither did they indicate to which part of his body he was shot nor if it is life-threatening.

SKNVibes was however informed that the man’s name is Benjamin Joseph and he is the owner of Philisha's Guest House.

The last shooting incident that reportedly occurred in the Federation was on the afternoon of Wednesday (Jul. 13) in Nevis, but the intended target had escaped unscathed.

Since then, citizens and residents had enjoyed a period of relative calm as there was no report of gun-related crime other than the discovery of firearms, ammunition, cocaine and the uprooting of marijuana plants, as well as break-ins and larcenies.

The police are asking anyone who might have information regarding this incident to share same with them.

“Information can be passed to Violent Crimes Unit (Nevis) at 469-5269,  Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477(TIPS) or by using the SKN Crime Reporter App on your Smartphone,” the communiqué said.
