Digicel to rebuild communications in Barbuda

By: Digicel, Press Release

Monday 11th September 2017, Kingston, Jamaica – With Hurricane Irma having devastated the island of Barbuda and the Prime Minister of Antigua & Barbuda, Gaston Browne, describing it as “uninhabitable”, Digicel will travel to the island on Tuesday as part of an industry-wide delegation to work on restoring communications as quickly as possible.

With a compulsory evacuation last week as Hurricane Jose posed a further threat to the island, this is the first time that recovery teams will be able to land on Barbuda to assess and start the restoration work.

Commenting on the mission, Vanessa Slowey, CEO of Digicel Caribbean and Central America, commented; “The Digicel team is ready and able. We have been ready to get to work to restore service in Barbuda since last Thursday and now we have our opportunity. We are committed to helping Barbudans rebuild after the devastation caused by Irma and this will be an important step forward.”
