SKN Patriots upbeat despite not winning title

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – DESPITE going under to Trinbago Knight Riders in the Finals of the Caribbean Premier League, the owners of St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots are pleased with the team’s performance.

Chief Operations Officer of the Patriots, Richard Berridge told SKNVibes Sports this morning (Sept. 12) that they are very satisfied with the team’s overall performance throughout the tournament.

He explained that they accomplished two of the three goals the team set out to achieve at the beginning of the 2017 season.

Included in those goals was to qualify for the Playoffs in Trinidad.

“I would have said at the start of the season that we had three main goals. One was to get into the Playoffs which we achieved, the second was to get into the Finals which we achieved, and the third goal was to actually win the tournament, which we came very close to achieving. However, one over changed all of that for us. But as disappointed as we all are, the players, owners, the franchise owners, and the fans, we still have a lot to be happy about with where we ended up this year.”

St. Kitts-Nevis Patriots (formerly the Antigua Hawkbills franchise), made a significant leap up the table when compared with their four previous seasons.

The Hawkbills, on a consistent basis, would have finish in the bottom two on the points table, with the bigger and more established cricket franchises topping them.

However, this season, the team defeated a number of the top teams. They twice defeated Guyana Amazon Warriors in Florida – en route to finishing second on the table behind eventual winners Trinbago Knight Riders.

The SKN Patriots found the going tough against the Knight Riders, where they were restricted to 135 for 6 off their allotted 20 overs.

In resply, the Knight Riders got home with one over to spare, registering 136 for 7.

Berridge noted that if people had told them they would have made the Finals, they would have taken that – win or lose.

He reiterated that they are happy with the progress of the team, emphasizing that their pleasure is not only with the franchise but also the turnout of fans at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium.
