Two Tropical Depressions are on the radar

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – WHILE some islands are still recovering from the effects of Hurricane Irma, officials in the Caribbean region are keeping a close watch on two developments in the Atlantic Ocean.

As at 11:00 a.m. today (Sept. 14), the Disturbances, one and two, are currently still out in the Atlantic Ocean.

In its update, the National Hurricane Center indicated that a tropical wave (Disturbance one), located about 800 miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands, continues to produce widespread showers and thunderstorms. Environmental conditions are expected to be conducive for gradual development of this system, and a tropical depression could form early next week while it moves westward at around 15 mph across the tropical Atlantic.

The Florida-based center disclosed that formation chance through 48 hours remains low, 20 percent, while formation chance through five days, medium 60 percent.

Disturbance two (tropical wave), according to the NHC, is located between the west coast of Africa and the Cabo Verde Islands.

It is said to be producing a large area of disorganized shower and thunderstorm activity. Some development of this system is possible over the next few days before upper-level winds become less favourable.

The system is forecast to move westward at 10 to 15 mph across the far eastern tropical Atlantic for the next several days.

The Hurricane Center puts formation chance at a low 30 percent through 48 hours, while five days formation is at a medium 40 percent.
