BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IN wake of the passage of Hurricane Maria that caused considerable damage in the Federation, the St. Kitts Electricity Company (SKELEC) has reported that overall restoration of power to the island is at 65%.
That report came against the backdrop of the restoration of power to consumers in the greater Basseterre area, Shadwell, St. Peter’s up to Parry’s Housing, Conaree, Half Moon, Frigate Bay, Bird Rock, Canada to Lodge Project and the Southeast Peninsula.
Power was also restored to consumers in West Farm, according to the report.
Meanwhile, St. Peter’s, above Parry’s Housing; Boyd’s to Old Road Village; Lodge Village to Mansion; and Tabernacle to Dieppe Bay; are being attended to in order to have power restored today (Sept. 21).
According to SKELEC, though work is scheduled in the above mention areas, “circumstances may arise which may hinder the possibility of work” in all the locations.
Many areas in St. Kitts were without power even before the eye of Hurricane Maria passed close to the Federation.
The company noted that as restoration proceeds, it is aware that there would be small areas of single or multiple customers without power within a restored area.
However, “every effort is being made to restore power to those isolated areas as quickly as possible”.
