SKNVibes Top 25 People in Entertainment for 2010

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE year 2010 was a great one for people involved in the entertainment industry, which ranges from party promoters, artistes and the fashion sector.

     


    Here is a list of SKNVibes Top 25 People in Entertainment for 2010.

     


    25. Juni Liburd – Juni Liburd is a name synonymous with radio broadcasting and he must be applauded for the start of a new radio station called Freedom FM, which in a short span of time has grown to become the most popular station with the majority of listenership from 15 to 35 years. Liburd did so by cleverly snagging the top radio personalities and creating the Freedom FM Family; a force to be reckon with.

     


    24. Petal Newton - Petal Designs made waves in the fashion industry locally with creative swimsuit designs that were featured on countless fashion events and photo shoots. Although Newton is not the only swimsuit designer in the Federation, the young woman’s creative pieces were in high demand during 2010 as her suits were at times solely featured on various projects. They were also the official suits worn by the Miss St. Kitts-Nevis World delegate.

     


    23. Alsanarda Hanley - As a member of S Model Management, Alsanarda Hanley was taught to ‘stand out’ and that is exactly what she does whenever she models at fashion events. She won the first ever Miss Culture Swimsuit Competition held in Nevis and was also awarded her agency’s Top Model Award. She was also photographed for the Nevis Pages Calendar and did so well on her shoot that she was featured as the Centerfold.

     


    22. Minister L.K – Being one of the positive artistes the island has produced, Minister L.K is all about promoting peace and love and was recently nominated for a 2010 Gospel Music Marlin Award in the Bahamas. Minister L.K is among the few local artistes to ever to be nominated for a regional award. The 28-year-old became a Christian at the age of 15 and continues to be a soldier of Christ. He released his music video ‘Where is the Love’ in 2010 and had performed in Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Tortola, Trinidad, the United States of America and St. Maarten.

     


    21. Shakki - This Soca Diva demonstrated that she will always have a rightful place in the local Soca arena and solidified that with her 2010 Carnival release - ‘High for Carnival’. She was the Second Runner-up in the Soca Monarch Competition with that song.

     


    20. Cheddi Bradshaw - This young man seemed to have tried his hand in almost every possible aspect of entertainment since first hitting the scene as a DJ with TNO Sounds. He then started promoting events and formed his own modelling agency under his Island Soul label. When the agency had closed its doors, Bradshaw got into artiste management and currently manages Rolhensha, one of the top artistes in the Federation. He also shot and produced her music video and truly made a name for himself when he organised one of the biggest events of the year, Clash of the High Schools Championships. Bradshaw shows no sign of slowing down as he continues with his Island Soul Art, Entertainment, Marketing and Media Company.

     


    19. Nicha B – He is not just a ‘school time lover’, he is one of the few artistes in the Federation who burst onto the scene in 2010 and quickly rose to fame. He released countless favourites that year including ‘School Time Lover’, ‘Welcome to SKB’, ‘Wanna Reach Far’ and ‘Merry Christmas’, which features DJ Rinch & Footsy.

     


    18. Queen Anastasia - In June, Anastasia released her first reggae album which featured the hit song ‘Peace and Love’. Returning to her first love, calypso, she participated in the Soca Monarch Competition with her popular song ‘St. Kitts’, after which she won the Female Bacchanal title for the fourth time and placed third in the Senior Calypso Monarch Competition.

     


    17. Fatisha Imo – After 25 years, St. Kitts finally had a representative at the prestigious Miss World Pageant. The beautiful and intelligent Fatisha Imo was the chosen one. The 24-year-old was determined to participate in the pageant and had spearheaded a number of fundraising events to assist in the covering of expenses in China. Participating in activities leading up to the staging of the pageant, Imo stood out in the talent and sporting activities which gave everyone a reason to remember St. Kitts and Nevis.

     


    16. X-Man - X-Man of the Kassanova Band released what could easily be regarded as the biggest hit for 2010 from Nevis and possibly the Federation. ‘Food All Over’, with its catchy lyrics and music, earned its way on the charts of the Virgin Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Antigua and the UK. His spectacular performance of the song at the first ever Soca Monarch Competition also earned him the second place.

     


    15. Kymberlee Ward - A talented makeup artiste, who had travelled and held workshops in many islands in the Caribbean, Kymberlee Ward has undoubtedly teased locals with her talent and showed that she can take the level of makeup art to higher heights. Given the right tools, this young lady can create almost any look and never ceases to amaze anyone who views her work. She was also the makeup artiste for the recently crowned National Carnival Queen.

     


    14. Shannon Hawley - As one of the principles behind Express Events, Hawley greatly helped in changing the entertainment landscape with her exciting and much anticipated themed events. She capped the year with winning the Best J’Ouvert Troupe Award for her Mudsunami Troupe. It was a smart move by the powers that be to selected her as the Deputy Chairperson for the National Carnival Committee, where her involvement had definitely added to the success of 2010/2011 festivities.

     


    13. Sugar Bowl - Sugar Bowl has managed to maintain his position as the most popular radio/television personality in the Federation. And with his TV show and recent employ at Freedom FM, it seems as though he will hold that position for a very long time. He is one of the few local celebrities who can throw two parties to celebrate his birthday. This funny man held one party in Nevis and another in St. Kitts, and, according to reports, both events were successful.

     


    12. Sister Sensia – Triple S maintained her position as one of the most requested DJs in St. Kitts and Nevis. She has had a number of local gigs and extensive overseas bookings in 2010. One of her best moments in that year was when she gained Caribbean recognition performing at the first annual Female DJ Caribbean Showdown held in November in St. Maarten.

     


    11. DJ Rinch – He is the principle producer of Yardtunes Productions and the man responsible for most of the biggest hits released form top local artistes in 2010. His role as producer was essential in the success of the artistes, as his talent and expertise helped in making their songs hits. Infamus, C-Money and Nicha B are some of the artistes for whom he had produced music.

     


    10. Richard Munro - Originally from Trinidad but had resided in St. Kitts for a number of years, Richard Munro of RJM Photoworks had reached his first milestone in the photography business in June, but has already made major waves with his work. The young man is the most sought after photographer in the Federation who puts a unique touch on his work of weddings, concerts, parties and modelling. In 2010 he teamed up with makeup artiste Sashe Kymberlee Ward and produced a serious of memorable images, including an Avatar-inspired theme shoot.

     


    09. Rolhensha – Ever since her ‘Go Rolhy Go’ days at Kittitian Superstar, Rolhensha Henry has been making waves in the music industry locally and regionally. Last year was her debut performance on the biggest concert of her country, the St. Kitts Music Festival; not to mention her collaboration with top reggae artiste Gyptian on a track called ‘Just a lil loving’.

     


    08. C-Money – Owner of one of the sweetest voices in St. Kitts, C-Money is possibly one of the most talented artistes in the Federation. He had a great performance on the St. Kitts Music Festival, which is not an easy gig to get on. He also demonstrated his versatility by contributing to the National Carnival with the production of a Soca song that won him the Third Runner-up position at the Soca Monarch Competition.

     


    07.  Nigel ‘Tru Capo’ Lewis – There is another avenue for local artistes who want to push their music to another level This avenue was created by Lewis in his establishing of what many people call “the one man army’ - Tru Capo Network. More popularly known for music videos, Lewis shot and produced for Infamus. He has added to the music entertainment in a radical way and has become the most popular and sought after videographer in recent times. There is no doubt that his music videos has added to the success of some of the local artistes.

     


    06. Jazzique Chiverton - Jazzique was instrumental in producing two of Masud Sadiki’s Reggae albums in the past, and he was also able to put together the top singer and musicians in a band called ‘Green House’ that does justice to the term ‘international band’. The band has a regular gig at Spice Mill and Jazzique had successfully led it in 2010.

     


    05. Masud Sadiki – For many years Sadiki was known as one of the Federation’s top artiste, and today he still maintains that name, especially with the release of a powerful song in October called ‘A Stitch in Time’. The song was written for the United Nations Secretary General’s ‘UNITE To End Violence Against Women’ campaign. He later joined other regional artiste as spokespersons for the campaign and journeyed to Palestine to perform. The Reggae singer also stunned everyone when he entered the calypso arena and placed fourth in the Finals of the Senior Calypso Monarch Competition.

     


    04. Samal Duggins – He usually refers to himself as ‘Mr. Litterateur’. However, Samal ‘Z-Dan’ Duggins has successfully hosted a monthly event that brought out the literature skills of some of the Federation’s talented poets and writers.  Every month, a relatively large amount of people attend Island Xpressions; an event that seeks to provide a forum for people to express themselves, whether through poetry, music, singing, dancing or film. It is arguably one of the best events to ever occur in St. Kitts. Duggins, who also ‘spits’ his lyrics from time to time, is also a film producer and owns his own company called ‘Island Xpressions’.

     


    03. Mr. Mention – Mention has had another successful year as band leader and lead vocalist of the most popular band in the Federation, Nu-Vybes International. The band performed almost weekly at various venues locally and regionally and had created some popular slangs and phrases. Many believe that Mr. Mention could be the most influential person in the Federation.

     


    02. Konris Maynard - Maynard truly became an ‘Unstoppable Force’ when he won the first ever Soca Monarch Competition with that song. He also made headlines and much debate when he won the Road March title with the same song; a feat which no individual had achieved since 1995. Maynard put all naysayers to rest when in August he retained the Leeward Islands Calypso crown in Anguilla.

     


    01. Infamus - No doubt he is the Artiste of the Year. Infamus had a great year in 2010, the year when his career really took off. He staged several successful parties, released new hits and music videos that kept his fans hungry for more. He travelled to Canada and received financial backing from the government, which is no easy accomplishment for local artistes. He also was the first artiste to be announced on the St. Kitts Music Festival lineup. In January, he was recognised by Wyclef Jean when the international star gave a memorable performance at a concert in St. Kitts.
