CHARLESTOWN Nevis, March 17th 2011 - The Gingerland Secondary school team defeated their Charlestown Secondary School counterparts at the Ramsbury grounds yesterday.  This was the first game in the best of three semi finals between the two schools in this year’s Giant Malt sponsored High School championships. The two teams are due to play three matches to determine the Nevis finalist but the understanding is that if one team wins two consecutive games, the third game will not be played.

The GSS team batted first and scored a competitive 203 all out in 32 overs.

Colin Archibald top scored with an attractive 61 which included quite a number of boundaries.  Two extra cover drives played early in his innings were absolutely out of the top draw, as he genuflected and drove firstly Chavil Archibald and then Nigel Hanley, much to the delight of his teammates.  After the second shot, one spectator shouted: West Indies want you!’

    S. Liburd got 32 and Shawn Hanley 21.

For CSS, Chavil Archibald got 2 wickets for 24 runs; Nigel Hanley 3 for 23; Timothy Cumberbatch 3 for 37 and Hakeem Harvey 2 for 29.

CSS in response could only muster 173 all out in 25 overs of the 35 overs encounter. Captain Duan Webbe who earlier in the day took an exceptional catch running back to dismiss the ultra aggressive Adrian Williams, batted well for his top score of 49.  Dymon Parris got 24 and Timothy Cumberbatch 28.

For GSS, Corey Morton got 3 for 32; Bervis Burke 3 for 24 and Colin Archibald 2 for 26.

The two teams will meet again on Friday at the same venue and because of that fact, none of the teams will play their previously scheduled games in the Nevis Cricket Association second division fixtures today. Both games will be rescheduled.
