The people of lower Cayon came out in their numbers to hear the leadership of the PAM bring rare truth to bear on the pressing issues of the day in what was the first in a series of public meetings designed to raise awareness of the people about the continued and flagrant neglect by this Labour Administration.
The meetings come at a critical time as May Day approaches and this Administration is keen to use the observance to continue its campaign of propaganda and obfuscation. The PAM leaders shed light on the issue of land, the plight of workers, the public debt and the VAT that will soon be inflicted on this country.
The crowd of about 100 people paid keen attention as the speakers took turns to correct the various misconceptions that are currently being peddled in the lead up to May Day. Mr. Glenroy Blanchette, representative for constituency # 1, blasted the Government for the ballooning national debt and its transparent attempt to buy the people with the CWC and adding to the debt with little benefit to the ordinary man.
The Hon. Shawn Richards brought his accountant's expertise to bear on the issue of taxes and riled the people up as he explained just how much this Government has raised the cost of living and is seeking to raise it even more with VAT.
Dr. Charles Warner discussed how this current Administration is piggy backing on the respect earned, for good or ill, by the old guard of Labour while squandering it. He brought loud response from the crowd when he highlighted just how the land purchased by the former PAM Administration is being almost given away without regard to the needs of local people, especially sugar workers. ~~adz:Right~~
Always a popular speaker in his home town, Mr. Eugene Hamilton drew loud applause for his elucidation of the sleight of hand this Government has perpetrated on the people in the issue of housing and as he decried how the program of building the so - called "half hog head" are taking the people back at least 30 years.
The Political Leader, Mr. Lindsay Grant, capped off a well received meeting by taking this Government to task about its shameful treatment of workers; from the lying to the Industrial Site workers, to the contempt displayed for the police and civil servants.
The meeting put the week of meetings to a very good start and kicks the PAM campaign leading up to the next poll into high gear.
