New Books Donated to the Cayon Primary School Library by Glenford Gumbs of Gumbs Auto Parts

    Basseterre, St Kitts, July 1, 2011 – Staff and Students at the Cayon Primary School recently received an exciting array of books at their school’s library.  On Thursday, June 30, 2011, local businessman and owner of Gumbs and Gumbs Auto Parts in Lower Cayon, Glenford ‘Pilly’ Gumbs Jr made a presentation to the school’s principal Ms Marva Buchanan in the presence of deputy principal Jacqueline Lewis-Bassue, teachers, students and two representatives of Gumbs and Gumbs Auto Parts.  The simple, but significant ceremony was coordinated to hand over books and writing supplies totaling in excess of (One thousand EC).

     

    Gumbs said that he was indeed delighted to give back to the Cayon community in such a tangible way.  He also remarked that he grew up in the Green Valley area and was proud that he was a in a position to make a positive contribution his community.

     

    Meanwhile, principal Buchanan expressed gratitude to Gumbs and his representatives for the timely donation.  She was indeed confident that the students would be excited with this new addition. 

     

    As the school continues to reinforce its emphasis on reading, the new books are a much needed boost to the library’s  fictional and non fictional listings.

     

    In closing, the young businessman reiterated that he was happy that he was able to make this first donation and looked forward to establishing a closer relationship with the school. 

     

    He stated that plans are in progress to launch a scholarship fund at the same school in memory of his grandmother Rose Pilgrim who passed away in May 2009.  Rose Pilgrim was a prominent businesswoman in the Cayon community for many years.
