Jet skiing is a popular water sport
Basseterre, St. Kitts: A female student of Ross University, Melisa Kehl, originally of New York, USA, is in stable condition, recovering from a laceration to the side of her head, which she sustained after being run over by a jet ski, at South Friar’s Bay St. Kitts, on Sunday afternoon, September 30th.

A Coast Guard report also indicates that a young man from Bath Village Nevis, Javid Charles, is in Police custody assisting them in their investigations.

The Coast Guard responded to a call at approximately 3:45 in the afternoon, where it was reported that a female sea bather was involved in an accident with a jet ski, at South Friars.

A Coast Guard vessel was dispatched to the area but an expanded search had to be carried out after it was learnt that the Jet Ski driver had fled the scene.

The search led the Coast Guard personnel to Pinney’s Beach, Nevis, where they saw two jet skis fitting the description provided to them by eyewitnesses. There were also three persons, two Caucasian and one Black, next to the jet skis.

The Coast Guard officers advanced to the three persons and the jet skis with the intention of questioning the three persons but while approaching, the Black man, Javid Charles, fled the scene.

~~Adz:Right~~ The Coast Guard officers then solicited the support of the Charlestown Police in finding the man who fled the scene. The Police acted swiftly and were able to apprehend Charles shortly after.

Charles, along with the other two persons who were by the jet skis- two visitors from Leicestershire, England- were taken into custody by the Coast Guard. The two jet skis, which are reportedly from Sunshine Beach Water Sports Rentals, were also seized by the Coast Guard.

The three persons were subsequently handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), in St. Kitts. It was determined that it was Charles who was on the Jet Ski that collided with the Ross student and he was kept for questioning while the other two persons were released.
