: Leon Samuel was sentenced today, Monday, Oct. 1, for three counts of House-breaking and Larceny to which he had previously pled guilty to.

He was charged with breaking into the home of Mary Barzey and stealing items to the total value of EC$3,988.00 on Nov 28, 2006.

For those three counts of House-breaking and Larceny he was sentenced to five years in prison each that will run con-currently with each other.

He also faced another charged of House breaking and Larceny where he stole items to the value of over four thousand dollars on Nov. 29, 2006.

He had also pled guilty previously to this charge and was sentenced to the maximum penalty for House breaking and larceny which is seven years in prison. That sentenced will run con-currently with his other sentences.

Before he was sentenced Samuel’s Lawyer Reginald James asked the judge to be lenient on his client.

“Although, he’s not a first time offender and he is already serving time from a conviction on May, 10, and was given four years in prison,” James said. “I would like His Lordship to consider his age of 20 years, his decision to plead guilty to the charges and his remorse.”

The lawyer continued by saying that Samuel spoke to him with tears in his eyes and regret for what he has done and said that ever since his mother died he started going astray.

His Lordship Francis Belle said it is unfortunate for Samuel to have such a record at a young age.

“It is almost as if you’re making a career out of it, and you’re also stealing expensive stuff as well, it’s like you’re trying to impress girls with these chains you take,” His Lordship said.

“You have to make up your mind to stop this nonsense,” His Lordship Belle said before sentencing Samuel.

Samuel will end up spending three extra years in prison as his sentences run con-currently with his previous sentence.
