{Charlestown; Nevis} H.O.P.E Nevis adopted St. John’s Primary School officially for the 2007/2008 academic years, at a ceremony held at the school immediately after the morning devotions.

According to Rohan Isles, H.O.P.E President, the adoption programme will include donations of reading materials, sponsoring of the best female and male athlete trophies for the St. John’s Primary School (SIPS) Sports meet, attendance at and involvement at the St. John’s Primary School Sports Day and motivational talks in all classes.

H.O.P.E will also offer an academic award for the most improved student.  Members of hope also plan to work closely with SIPS to mentor student(s).
H.O.P.E members will avail themselves and their intellectual and otherwise to develop the school. Also planned is the sponsorship of speech/elocution contest within the school.

During the ceremony, H.O.P.E members donated reading materials and two footballs. “The two footballs will enable the students to ~~Adz:Right~~ prepare for the football season,” said the President. He told the students that H.O.P.E would partner with the private sector to help develop the school.

Mrs. Aril Elliott described H.O.P.E’s adoption programme as a “bold initiative”. She said the adoption of SIPS was timely and in keeping with the government policy. Matilda Taylor, the Deputy Principal of SIPS, said the adoption programme activities would make the school excel. She thanked the management of Chapter One Bookshop for making a donation to the school.

H.O.P.E Nevis is a group formed by young people from diverse backgrounds with diverse ideas and with one mission, “to do all in our power to help young people of Nevis excel,” said a press statement signed by H.O.P.E  P.R.O., Ron Daniel.

“H.O.P.E intends to motivate the young people of Nevis to channel their energies and priorities into the worthwhile ventures such as sport, community involvement and education. We want to stand up and be counted as young people who didn’t simply sit back and let things be, but young people who got up and did something about the plight of our young people,” said the press statement.

H.O.P.E came into existence following a talk show. Public Domain broadcast on CHOICE FM in early 2006 hosted a programme that focused on negative perceptions of youth.

“Mr. Isles took it upon himself as a young person to get people together who were passionate about youth being viewed in a more propitious light. It was Mr. Isles who coined the word H.O.P.E as well as got the people together,” Daniel said.
