Press Secretary
Premier Applauds Nevisian Pastor for 25 Years of Sterling Service

    Hon. Joseph Parry
(Charlestown, Nevis- Wednesday, January 16, 2008)
The Premier of Nevis, the Honourable Joseph Parry along with numerous well wishers gave great words of praise to Pastor Davidson Morton for twenty five years of spreading the word of the Lord to the people of Nevis.

“For a number of years, people have come from all over Nevis to receive healing from Pastor Davidson Morton. I feel that he has a gift and the special calling of helping the lost, helpless and weak," said Mr. Parry.

Pastor Davidson Morton, who started his early preaching days in a small church in Butler’s village, is now the Spiritual leader of one of the largest, most popular churches on the island of Nevis. The Eden Browne Church of God, which was the vision of Mr. Morton's father, the late Mr. Ellsworth Morton, became a reality on December 31, 1999. The inaugural service was convened on the first floor of the building- which has a seating capacity of 700.

Mr. Morton says he owes a lot to his father, who was a great preacher and had established the Butlers, Brick Kiln and Cox Churches of God in Nevis. Ellsworth was adventuring out beyond the Nevisian borders to establish a church in Anguilla, but unfortunately died before that dream was able to become a reality.

Meanwhile, a packed program was observed as Mr. Clive Williams gave the welcome remarks and Mr. Errol Pemberton chaired this great spiritual occasion.  ~~Adz:Right~~

Tributes to Pastor Morton came from a number of fellow clergy members in Nevis; among them were Pastor James Douglas, Pastor Eric Maynard, Pastor Stephen Liburd and Dr. Alston Percival.

The Church was treated to the melodious sounds of the Eden Brown Church of God Choir, the Cayon Church of God Choir out of St.Kitts and the musical entertainment of the Nathaniel Jones Steel Orchestra.

Mrs. Carmella Lawrence mesmerized the congregation with a sterling solo performance; but a young girl named Nekhalia Tyson absolutely stole the show with her thrilling rendition of a poem, written by her mother, in tribute to the life and work of Pastor Davidson and his wife, Ruth Morton.

Among the many congratulatory messages received was a telephone call from the Prime Minister himself, the Honourable Dr. Denzil Douglas.

In response to the overwhelming show of appreciation and support, Pastor Morton simply smiled and exclaimed that he looks forward to the next twenty five years with great anticipation.
