Moravians to ‘REMEMBER’ with Emancipation Concert 2012

Scenes from 2010 Emancipation Concert
PRESS RELEASE

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - Once again this year the Zion Moravian Church will be holding its Emancipation Concert on Sunday 5th August at 6.30pm. This has become a regular feature of the commemoration of Emancipation on St. Kitts.

The Moravian Church has taken the initiative of organizing these concerts in recognition of the work done by Moravian missionaries among the enslaved people on St. Kitts even before Emancipation, and of the efforts of the Moravian Missionary Society in England in forming part of the pressure groups agitating for the Abolition of Slavery.

Over the past few years the organisers have attempted to give some focus to these concerts by building the programme around a central theme. This year’s concert is entitled ‘Remembering’. The programme will highlight three (3) influential enslaved persons in the period before Emancipation, and one Moravian missionary.

However, even as we remember the atrocities of the past, the concert also invites us to celebrate the various talents of our people as we look to the future. Therefore the second half of the programme, which will be called ‘Moving Forward’, will be a display of some of this rich talent in our youth.

The Zion Moravian Church invites one and all to this informative and entertaining evening.
