Church of God – A Worldwide Association St. Kitts and Nevis

Press Release

Contact: Deacon Don Simpson (Tel: 869-661-7935)

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, October 24th, 2012 --  Caribbean Regional Director of the Church of God – A Worldwide Association (COGWA) Pastor Arnold Hampton has described the recently concluded Feast of Tabernacles as foundational and applicable to mankind today.

Speaking at the Feast of Tabernacles commemorated at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort, where about 200 church members from the Caribbean, Africa and the United States gathered to keep the festival, Pastor Hampton pointed to the importance and relevance of observing the feasts as outlined in the Bible.

“We are observing what is known as the Feast of Tabernacles. This is a festival that is found in the Old Testament, as belonging to God. He called it ‘His Feast.’ It is not only something that is in the Old Testament, but is also in the New Testament. We find nothing in the New Testament that would nullify its observance for us, even today. So, because our foundation is in the Bible, we believe it is necessary for us to keep it today.

“We have festival sites all around the Caribbean. Members come from various places around the world to observe this annual festival, which has very foundational meanings in terms of the plan of God for all mankind. Besides the Feast of Tabernacles, the plan of God is revealed in these festivals, which God instituted with the children of Israel. These festivals, starting with the Passover, we find it has an Old Testament meaning for the children of Israel coming out of Egypt, but in the New Testament, which is clearly delineated, it pertains to the sacrifice of Jesus Christ to save mankind from sin.

“These festivals start with the Passover. They go from there to the Days of Unleavened Bread, that it is not a matter of just believing in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, we have to do something about it, and that’s what the Days of Unleavened Bread are about…that we are coming out of sin, and we are living the life of Jesus Christ. That moves us from the Days of Unleavened Bread through Pentecost to this fall festival season.

“This season is the highlight of the year for us. Here we find that God, because of His love for mankind, His plan is going to incorporate all of mankind. This is foundational for us, as a church, because it shows us His plan for all mankind when Christ returns on the Feast of Trumpets. During the Feast of Tabernacles, Jesus Christ would establish His millennial rule here on Earth, and even after this, God so love the world that He doesn’t want to see anyone perish that He would give those who have never heard, and there are billions, billions (of people), who have never heard the name of Jesus Christ. He would bring them back to life and give them an opportunity for salvation.”
