LONDON, UK, November 4th, 2012 – Trinidadian-born, Grammy-award winner Heather Headley returns to the stage this week in the role of a lifetime.

This Tuesday, Heather will begin a run as Rachel Marron, the role made famous by Whitney Houston twenty years ago in The Bodyguard. The film has been recreated as a musical and is scheduled to be at the Adelphi

“I never had the chance to meet Whitney, even though we knew the same people. It may have been for the best. I’m not easily star struck, but I may have been with her,” Headley says of the late star who, died tragically earlier this year. She learned to stretch her vocal range listening to the pop singer, while growing up in Barataria, Trinidad and calls it both an honour and a gift to play a character that Whitney embodied so effortlessly.

Headley will play alongside the dashing Lloyd Owen who will reprise the character, former Secret Service agent Frank Farmer, who is hired to protect the songstress after they discover she is being stalked. Each expects to be in charge but what they don’t expect is to fall in love.

Fans of the movie will enjoy hearing Heather perform hits from the soundtrack, including Queen of the Night and I Will Always Love You. The producers of the musical have provided an extra treat with other songs made famous by Whitney Houston incorporated into the production. These include So Emotional, One Moment in Time, Saving All My Love, I'm Your Baby Tonight, and How Will I Know.

Heather, who has been blogging and tweeting about her move to London for The Bodyguard, says it’s been challenging but very rewarding to watch the production take shape. The show is slated to play six days a week, including a matinee performances.

Along with the new musical, the singer who also won a Tony award for her work in Aida, released her fourth album Only One in the World in September. The album features a compilation of some of the artist’s favourite tracks including Karen White’s Superwoman and Whitney Houston’s Run to You. Heather and her husband Brian Musso executive produced the album and she co-wrote six of the songs including the title track.

“This is my season to wear a few hats,” she said of preparing for the musical and promoting an album while raising her three-year-old son, affectionately called The Commander. “My aim is to make sure that the priorities are God, my husband and our son. After that, everything else can fall into place.”
