Rhythmz Dance Theatre wins first-ever Dance Xplosion Competition

    Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 23rd, 2012 – At the end of the night, there could be only one winner. The dynamic duo of Pamela Diaz and Shonroy Caesar of Rhythmz Dance Theatre were named the first ever champions of the Rotary Club of Liamuiga’s (RCL) young adult dance competition, “Dance Xplosion – This Is Your Chance2Dance!”

     

    Rhythmz Dance Theatre captivated the audience and judges with three energetic and creative dances that highlighted the team’s range of technique and choreography.

     

    From an emotional first performance entitled ‘Jar of Hearts’ to a fun and entertaining piece that incorporated several popular soca tunes, the duo were a fan favourite throughout the evening.

     

    Rhythmz Dance Theatre rose to the top of the competition, beating out two other groups and a solo dancer for the inaugural ‘Dance Xplosion’ title.

     

    Each competitor was required to perform three pieces in stated genres of soca/calypso, dancehall/reggae, Afro-Caribbean/African and freestyle. Each performer presented an original choreographed piece, a piece from their semifinal presentation and a freestyle. The dancers performed before an audience of approximately 300.

     

    The competition was held Saturday November 17th, 2012 at the Sir Cecil Jacobs Auditorium, ECCB. Rhythmz Dance Theatre of Nevis amassed a total of 1191 points and walked away with $3000 in cash prize.

     

    The final results:
    2nd - Music in Motion – 1162 points - $1000 cash prize
    3rd – Mr. Rolston Ryan – 1134 points - $750 cash prize
    4th - 3HB Rebirth Dance Crew – 767 points - $500 cash prize

     

    People’s Choice Award, selected based on crowd response, went to Music in Motion. The evening was hosted by popular Freedom FM DJ EK ‘The Real Right.’ There were also guest performances by Rotarian Adrian Scantlebury on the saxophone, St. Kitts Best Dancers and Latin sensation duo Samuel Phipps and Kristin Greaux.
