By: Crime Stoppers, Press Release

BASSETERRE St. Kitts, November 13th, 2012  --  Crime Stoppers St. Kitts and Nevis has begun spreading its message to the schools and has thus far received quite a favorable response. Crime Stoppers’ spokesperson, Veron Lake, expressed his anticipation of having the schools work hand-in-hand with Crime Stoppers to inform young people about the program while encouraging students to feel comfortable using the hotline themselves.

Mr. Lake intends to meet with the principals of secondary schools and colleges across the Federation, having already been successful in meeting with the principals of the Immaculate Conception Catholic School, Verchilds High School, Sandy Point High School and the Cayon High School.

Once launched, the Crime Stoppers program will allow the general public to diala toll-freehotline,1-800-8477(TIPS),and anonymously access the Crime Stoppers Canada-based call center where they can report any information on any criminal activity they may beaware of, whether, present or future.  The hotline is encrypted so that information about the call cannot be tracked, and therefore, individuals providing information will always remain anonymous.

After submitting their tip, the caller will be provided a unique code number. This code numbershould be used 30 days later by the caller to find out if the tip has led to an arrest.  Callers become eligible for a REWARD of up to EC $1000 if the tip provided led to an arrest. This rewardwill be paid without compromising the identity of the caller.Callers can be reassured that the process remainscompletely anonymous.

It is the intention of the Crime Stoppers team to reach out to all the secondary schools and colleges on both St. Kitts and Nevis before the official launch dates on December 13, in Nevis and December 14, in St. Kitts.
