    Introduction of SKNVibes’ ‘Fashionista Paparazzi’

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – BE honest…whenever you get all dressed up for whatever the occasion may be, taking photographs is like building a fashion memoir! Is that not a fact?

Nowadays, the use of social media networks allows people to show off a particular outfit that encapsulates personal taste in fashion and style.

Be it hairstyle, make-up, clothing, shoes and or accessories, almost everyone has his or her unique or signature way of dressing, however simple or well-thought out as the case may be.

One’s sense of style can be influenced by many factors, including culture, religion, contemporary trends, personal taste and even what the ‘stars’ are wearing.

Generally speaking, citizens and residents on St. Kitts-Nevis are known to have excellent taste in fashion…both females and males and perhaps most of you could name a few off hand, including yourself, of course.

Critics might jump in at this point and say sometimes people dress alike too much and that more people should tap into their individualism and allow their personal styles to be reflected in the outfits they choose.

With all that said, SKNVibes has decided to introduce ‘Fashionista Paparazzi’; a weekly fashion feature.

What is this you may ask? Well, basically, the objective of this feature is to highlight individuals and their fashion styles with the use of photos and comments from the participants.

So whether it is on a leisurely Friday afternoon when you are well-dressed for a weekend ‘lime’ or even if they are attending a promotional dance or other entertainment events, sports or business, you can be featured.

Last Friday afternoon (Feb. 22), this media house took to the streets of downtown Basseterre  with the intension of getting ‘Fashionista Paparazzi’ started.

Many people love the idea of this weekly feature. Some persons indicated that they didn’t feel “dressed enough” on that particular day while others reserved their willingness to participate.

“You shoulda see me last Friday!” said one excited young woman after hearing about this fashion feature.

SKNVibes also caught up with a few individuals at a medical student-organised talent event held at Ma Pau on Saturday night (Feb. 23).

All of the participants were asked about their personal styles and outfit chosen at the time.

Here is what they had to say:

    ESTHER (in Black Dress)

“I love dresses and I love shoes. I love shorts because I have a big bum”, she giggly said.

    IVIE (in Bluish Green Dress)

“I like wearing short dresses…I like knee-length dresses. Tonight I’m wearing a green dress with a black tie around it. This dress is from TJ Maxx and it’s a one hand dress…and it’s lace.”

    TREVELYN STAPLETON

“I think my sense of style is very diverse. I like to keep it fresh and trendy. I did my own hair. I did my makeup; it wasn’t much. I just did mascara and lipstick.”

    KEMA

“I made this short myself. I love ancarr so I cut it out and made the short myself. The earrings, I got it in Dillard’s which is in the States. The top, I actually don’t remember where I got it from but it was in the US. I love short dresses but the top had to be covered because my top is big. I love heels…boots especially, like six-inch heels. I just constantly change my hair but I prefer red. I’m always changing my hair. Tomorrow you might see me with a different thing. Some of my dresses, I made them with ancarra. Ancarra is an African type of dress material…I get it and make my shorts and shirts.”

    JESSICA AKPABIO

“Basically, I wear what I’m comfortable with. If I dress with dark colours, I accessorise light colours like a lot of shimmery necklaces and stuff, but if I’m wearing bright colours, I keep the accessories at a minimal level.”

DAGAH  was wearing his iRep SKN T-shirt, Carrera sunglasses and Eco hand watch.

“I try to go for stuff that nobody got. Everybody will be rocking Jordans or Air Force, but I’ll be rocking some type of European shoes. I would say that I go for stuff that is unique so that I can stand out.”

PAPPY said his outfit of the night was “basically European”. He observed that in Europe the men wear fitted clothing.

“So, as you see, I’m very skinny so I can’t wear big dresses. I just try to combine as much colours. I’m not good on colours…like these colours, somebody helped me put this one together. Usually, I like to wear just black and white but I just have to make sure the pants fit and the shirt fit. Basically it’s just that.”

A hearty thank you goes out to all of the participants and prospective partakers of ‘Fashionsita Paparazzi’.

Please feel free to stop the SKNVibes' paparazzi when seen to indicate that you want to be featured.
