BASSETERRE, St Kitts - A very trendy and entertaining evening showcasing fashion and music, absolutely captured the audience as they relished in the spring fashion trends that were showcased at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort.

On Saturday (June 8), a team of University of Medicine Health and Science students with fellow student/producer Victoria Chokuba, DoctorDesigner presented their Fund Raising Fashion Show that was undoubtedly a complete success.

DoctorDesigner is a name Victoria chose because it represents the two things she is very passionate about and currently pursuing. As a medical student and a designer/stylist, people often tell her that it is impossible to mix the two career fields, but Victoria’s mission is to prove that it is indeed possible.

The event was themed, Seven Cardinal Virtues and the models presented the fashions with lots of personality, humour, dance and an array of fun expressions.

The first showcase of fashion was entitled Knowledge, with preppy styles from suspenders with jeans and sweaters, nautical stripes to plaid shirts and bowties, and not to forget Bermuda shorts and blazers.

Compassion was the second virtue where styles were featured in light shades of purple, pink, tangerine, green and yellow and showcased in short and long dresses and polo shirts with long linen pants and dress shorts.

The other five virtues featured with the presentation of stylish fashion pieces were: Professionalism, which showcased appropriate business attire that included suits, ties, dress shirts, vests as well as beautiful skirt suits and short and long pant suits; Courage; Diversity; Network; and Respect.

These virtues are definitely vital in the professional world and DoctorDesigner, Victoria feels it is especially vital in the field of medicine and fashion, which is where her heart and hard work lie.

Clothing for this event was provided by IRepSKN in Port Zante with brands from their new clothing line, Iconic, as well as pieces from their other lines. Eve's Fashion Garden in TDC Mall also provided beautiful, chic and unique dresses.

Besides the array of spring fashions showcased, the grand audience was totally enthused at the groovy performance by Nicha B as he turned the vibes up a notch with his newest Reggae tune called ‘Please don’t judge me’.

He had the audience locked as they sang along with the smooth and easy lyrics and melodious rhythm. His second performance was another crowd pleaser. It was ‘Bounce and Skank’; a song popularly known for its sweet beats that surely entice the dancer out of anyone listening.

Another Local performer for the eve was Rico Righteous.

An additional highlight of the night was a dance performance by the UMHS African Students Association, which is an organisation on campus that advocates diversity and unity within the learning institution. The purpose of UMHS ASA is to support, unite and promote awareness of African cultures and health issues in the African community and the world around us.

Their captivating dance piece incorporated music and moves from many different cultures and ethnic groups.

The fashion show ended with a bang as the finale included models, the fashion team and local performer Nicha B as he gave an encore performance of Bounce and Skank, which was exactly what everyone on the runway did.

A joyful and unforgettable night it was. Music was provided by local DJ Legal. Well done to the UMHS for their production…Looking forward to hopefully another event.

All of the funds from the fashion show are being donated with love to benefit two charities in St. Kitts. Half of the proceeds will be donated to the JNF Hospital and the other half to the Holy Spirit Preschool on behalf of sponsor Walden University.

Victoria extends heartfelt thanks to all the sponsors – St. Kitts Marriott Resort, GvisionPhotography, Vibes Beach Bar, ZIZ Broadcasting, SKNVibes, IRepSKN, Eve's Fashion Garden, the performers ASA, Nicha B, Rico Righteous, Kachianna from Winnielle Model Management, the amazing DJ Legal, hosts Travis Stewart and Edi David, and extreme thanks to Walden University for its willingness and desire to be involved in an event that benefits the community of St. Kitts.
