BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – ST. KITTS will have not one, not two, but three beauties competing against their counterparts from St. Maarten and Anguilla for the crown in the 11th Annual Miss Venus Model Caribbean this weekend in Anguilla.

The island’s delegates are all local models - reigning Miss LIME Black San Swimsuit Queen Patricia Clarke, Desiree Herbert and Amelia Browne.

Interestingly, more than two competitors representing one island is not something new to a pageant of this nature, and such has been the case for St. Kitts in past shows.

The pageant will be staged at the Landsome Bowl on Saturday (June 15) and eight contestants are expected to participate.

SKNVibes spoke exclusively with St. Kitts’ Contestant Recruit Committee Member Dwayne Weekes, who, along with the St. Kitts’ beauty representatives, are currently in Anguilla.

Weekes is responsible for the Fanfare and is the co-segment routine coordinator.

The three representatives collectively spoke about their enthusiasm and what the public could expect on the night of the show when they go out to represent the Federation of St. Kitts-Nevis.

“We intend to take advantage of the opportunity, gain all the experience we can and do our best to represent the Federation (869) while delivering the best show the Anguillan people have ever seen.”

Weekes was asked what the judges will be looking for in the contestants.

“The judges will be looking for fitness and versatility in modelling, which is the ability to convey different emotions and variety of poses. They will also be looking at the contestants’ commercial appeal/marketability; that is, smile, physique, appeal and speech.

Weekes informed that the featured designers for this year’s event are Marllyna Boston Designs and Maza's Boutique from St. Maarten and Vaughn Anslyn from Nevis.

He highlighted the importance of the colour pink as the pageant pledges its support for cancer survivors and research.

“The colour that Miss Venus Model Caribbean pushes is pink, which reflects the support for cancer survivors and research. Annually, they host a banquet from which proceeds go to cancer research and the girls speak on the various forms of cancer. The banquet this year will be held in October and the queen and runners-up on this year’s pageant will be in attendance.”

As it relates to the monetary support which has enabled these women to be pageant ambassadors for their homeland, Clarke, as part of her winning package from the Black San Swimsuit Pageant, got an all-expense paid to trip to participate in the contest.

Browne’s sponsorship was  provided by Sally Martin, Vibes Bar, Reginald Amory, Simmonds and Associates and Adrian Scantlebury, while Dublin and Johnson Law Firm  and Mr. Yurn from sister isle Nevis collectively sponsored Herbert.
