Thousands flood White Sands on Sunday

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - DRESSED in white, thousands of people, including excitement seekers and those desirous of ‘cooling down’ after the 17th Annual St. Kitts Music Festival, had attended the Second Annual White Sands - the official St. Kitts Music Festival Cool Down Event presented by the Carambola Beach Club.

     

    SKNVibes was credibly informed that the impressive attendance numbers tabulated exceeded 3 000.

    The event, which began at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday (Jun. 30), ended shortly after 11:00 p.m.

    Entertainment was provided by Jazzique and the Green House Band with popular lead vocalist Mr. Quice, as well as DJ Kevy Kev from Florida featuring well-known local personality Piece-A- Man.

    Outdoorsy beach-type activities included water sports and there was also a foam pit that never ran out of soap bubbles.

    Attendees dressed in white took advantage of the free admission to the fete, while the few who did not adhere to the colour code were asked to pay only EC$5.

    Reserved seating at the event was priced at only EC$25 per person, which included a complimentary welcome cocktail.

    The Second Annual National Bank White Swimsuit Competition was the highlight of the day, and had featured seven beauties, from among which 20-year-old Danelia Huggins was adjudged the winner.

    Huggins captured the National Bank White Swimsuit title with 255 points, edging out Felicia Silcott by a mere one point, while Anita Sullivan copped the Second Runner-up position with 240 points.

    The other contestants were Kersha Martin, Ashley Maloney, Natalia Williams and Dellecia Wilkes.

    Maloney was a particular favourite, capturing the People’s Choice Award following a photo ‘Like’ competition conducted on Facebook in which she got 717 votes.

    The winner and her Runners-up were the recipients of some very impressive gifts packages.

    FIRST PLACE -  EC$1 500 from National Bank, one BlackBerry Z10 courtesy LIME, Gift from IC Jewelers, Dinner for two at Carambola Beach Club, weekend stay at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort, gift certificate courtesy Vibes Beach Bar, lunch for two at Coconut Grove, one bottle of wine from Opus Fine Wines & Spirits, and a gift bag from LIME.
     
    SECOND PLACE - EC$750 from National Bank, gift from IC Jewelers, dinner for two at Carambola Beach Club, gift Certificate courtesy Vibes Beach Bar, one bottle of Wine from Opus Fine Wines & Spirits, and a gift bag from LIME

    THIRD PLACE - EC$500, Gift from IC Jewelers, dinner for two at Carambola Beach Club, gift certificate courtesy Vibes Beach Bar, one bottle of wine courtesy Opus Fine Wines & Spirits, and gift bag from LIME.

    Additionally, Maloney was awarded a gift basket, compliments White Sands.

    This media house, during the event, spoke with one of the organisers of White Sands, Daislyn Sharpe who expressed delight at the successfully hosted event.

    Asked what she think attracts people to White Sands, Sharpe commented on the relaxing and spacious property afforded to patrons, the incomparable ambience of Carambola Beach Club and a well put together event that caters to persons who truly want to let their hair down, dance the night away and bring a fitting end to a fantastic Music Festival weekend.

    "We’re proud to have (this) product,” she added.

    Sharpe was also pleased with the high standard of the Swimsuit Competition.

    “It was of a very high standard. The girls were all very attractive, seasoned models who took this competition to a higher level.”  

    The Movado Model Agency, Flair Model Agency and Identity Top Model Agency were each represented.

    She went on to thank the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank for its partnership in the White Swimsuit Competition and pledged to make the event even better in the coming years.

    “We are happy that National Bank is, for the second year, on board with us as sponsors for the White Swimsuit Competition. We are pleased to have their support. White Sands is a fantastic cool down event for Music Festival and we hope to take this event to a higher level each year.”

    White Sands patrons received giveaways from LIME, Carib and Frito Lay and they took advantage of photo opportunities with the Carib girls.
