BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - Budding sprinter Alistair Clarke is eager to make his international debut for St. Kitts and Nevis at the 2013 IAAF World Championships slated to begin later this week.
In an interview with SKNVibes, Clarke stated how his training has been going in the lead up to the Championships.
“I am very prepared as prepared as I think I can be right now. I am feeling very confident. I hope my performance in the heat can justify my feelings.”
He briefly commented on the success of the relay team in 2011 and noted how it has inspired him as a young sprinter.
“It helped me to realise that anything is possible once I put my mind to it.”
He however admitted that there is some degree of pressure in trying to repeat the feat of 2011.
“The pressure is there but it is minor at the moment, but I just have to stay focused.”
Clarke spoke about his entry to the team, which he claimed was a seamless transition from the junior rank to the senior rank.
“Being amongst the senior athletes, the feeling isn’t much different because I know them coming up through the junior ranks. It is always a special feeling representing your country, and when you are in a position to do so you have to achieve something.”
Team St. Kitts-Nevis departed the Federation for Russia on Tuesday (Aug. 6) to compete in the Games beginning on August 10.
