Soca legend SuperBlue to perform in NYC for the first time in over 10 years

Press Release

NEW YORK, NY, August 19th 2013 - Award-winning Austin "SuperBlue" Lyons, the immortal musical Caribbean hero, will perform in New York City for the first time in over a decade at the Caribbean Fever Irie Jamboree Music Festival on August 31st (Independence Day in Trinidad & Tobago) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

In an exclusive interview on Sunday August 18th, with Dahved Levy on his WBLS 107.5 FM radio show, SuperBlue enthusiastically declared that, “Carnival Saturday night on Labor Day weekend, I will be inside the Barclays Center!”

The return of the world’s first ever Soca Monarch was met with jubilation and international support by his fans at the 2013 Carnival season in Trinidad and Tobago. Despite an eleven-year hiatus, SuperBlue resurrected to glory, to capture the hearts of fans young and mature.

Proving that greatness abounds in him, SuperBlue’s triumphant return earned him his historic seventh Soca Monarch crown and an unbeaten ninth Road March title. This year, the 30+ years Soca stuntman overcame tremendous adversity and a highly publicized drug habit, to demonstrate human strength and the power of change.

SuperBlue’s musical legacy spans time and continents. His impressive list of accolades and accomplishments includes being the first calypsonian to win the Soca Monarch title, the first Soca artist to perform at Wembley Convention Centre in the UK and the first to appear on Sesame Street!

Credited with the creation of the “wave” phenomenon in Soca music, the deeply spiritual singer/songwriter, took the reins from Ras Shorty I and forever changed Soca in 1980 with his timeless classic, "Soca Baptist", which won him the first ever Soca Monarch and Road March crowns.

Superblue’s musical prowess, lyrical executions and stage showmanship has inspired younger artistes including Iwer George, Kes the Band, Machel Montano, Bunji Garlin and his daughters, Terri Lyons and Fay-Ann Lyons-Alvarez.

Fans attending the Caribbean Fever Irie Jamboree Music Festival’s "Carnival Mania” show can expect perennial SuperBlue classics; “Get Something And Wave”, “Flag Party”, “Bacchanal Time” and “Wine on Something”; learn more about his famous women “Rebbeca” and “Ethel”; and get ready to bounce to his 2013 mega hit, “Fantastic Friday.”

"Carnival Mania" will be a family affair for Superblue; he will perform alongside his daughter Fay-Ann Lyons and her husband Bunji Garlin, for the first time ever in the United States.

Whether you call him Super Blue, Blueboy or the High Priest of Soca, Superblue is the indomitable King of Soca.
