BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Federation’s representative at the Miss World Pageant, m22-year-old Trevicia  ‘Barbie’ Adams, is  currently having a life changing experience whilst embracing the chronicles of her new pageantry journey in Bali, Indonesia where the 63rd annual production of the pageant is slated to take place.

Contestants from around the globe, including Adams, had begun arriving in Indonesia early last week. And so far, they have been engaged in pre-competition heats such as Beach Fashion Awards and Sports and Fitness.

Other upcoming events include Talent Competition and Beauty with a Purpose.

Adams and the other contestants on Wednesday (Sept.11) visited the Besakih Temple, which is commonly referred to as the ‘Mother Temple of Bali’.

Speaking with SKNVibes, she pleasantly shared what her experience has been like so far in Southeast Asia.

“My experience here in Indonesia is a life changing one. It has given me an appreciation for new cultures and religion. It is my first time being in this part of the world, so I am taking it all in; meeting the new girls who may soon become my close friends and just enjoying my moment.”

Adams said her purpose in taking part in the competition is not just to win but to share her twin-island Federation with the world.

“My goal here is not only to win but to share St Kitts and Nevis to the world.”

In May, Adams placed Fourth Runner-up in the Miss Caribbean World Pageant held in Tortola, BVI. She was crowned Miss Caribbean Culture Queen 2012 in the Culturama Festival in Nevis and in 2011 placed First Runner-up in the St. Kitts-Nevis National Carnival Queen Pageant.

The Miss World Pageant’s finale is scheduled to take place on Saturday (Sept. 28) at Sentul International Convention Center on the outskirts of Indonesia's capital city, Jakarta.

Information found on Indonesia’s Official Tourism Website, www.indonesia.travel, gives a detailed historical background of the Besakih Temple.

“Rising majestically on the western slopes of Mount Agung, and referred to as the Mother Temple of Hindu Bali, is Pura Besakih, or the Besakih Temple, covering  a vast area that offers  breathtaking mountain scenery surrounding this beautiful and artistic temple complex.”

It was further revealed that: “Facing Mt. Agung’s highest peak, believed to be the abode of the gods, and located at an altitude of 900 meters, Pura Besakih is built in the village of Besakih, in the eastern part of Bali. The name Besakih comes from the word ‘Basuki’, derived from the word ‘Wasuki’, which means Salvation in the classical Sanskrit language. Whereas, in the Samudramanthana mythology, the same name ‘Besuki’ in fact refers to the Dragon-God ‘Naga Besukian’, who inhabited Gunung Agung, the main volcano in Bali.”

It is said that this grand temple complex has been revered as a holy place since ancient times.

“The first recorded mention of its existence comes from an inscription dating back to 1007 AD. It is known that since the 15th century Besakih was regarded as the central temple of Hinduism in Bali.”
