BASSTERRE, St. Kitts - “ MY greatest moment on stage was when I saw my National Flag at the opening of the show, and at that moment I forgot about the cameras as my eyes were then fixed on our flag.”

This was the sentiment expressed by 22-year-old Trevicia ‘Barbie’ Adams during an exclusive chit chat with this media house after participating as the Federation’s representative in the Finale of the 63rd annual Miss World Pageant held at the  Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center in Indonesia.

Miss Philippines, 23-year-old Megan Young, on Saturday night (Sept. 28), was crowned Miss World 2013 after outshining 126 other contestants and also copping the award for Top Model after being selected from among the top 10 of that particular pre-competition held last week.

Miss France, 20-year-old Marine Lorphelin, was adjudged First Runner-up while Miss Ghana, 23-year-old Carranzar Naa Okailey Shooter took the Second Runner-up position.

Adams, during the interview, laughed at herself upon reflection of that patriotic moment when the flag caught her attention and she became temporarily oblivious to the cameras.

Asked what it was like being on that stage, Adams said: “I felt proud to know that I made it thus far. Through all the hard work, sweat and tears, I was still able to stand tall and represent our Federation with pride.”

St. Kitts-Nevis Miss World Pageant representative revealed that Young was a member of her group in the pre-pageant competitions. She even shared her thoughts on the young lady’s character while giving congratulatory remarks.

“I would like to extend congratulations to Miss Philippines Megan Young for winning the Miss World 2013 title. She was a part of my group, which was Group Two. So I am proud that the winner came from my group. I know she will be a great queen and I hope she takes that lovely personality throughout her reign.”

Adams said that being a contestant in the Miss World Pageant strengthened her mentally.

“The pageant was a great learning experience, as it strengthened me mentally. Being in such a pageant you have to be strong and exude a great deal of self-confidence, as being amongst 127 other beauties it is very hard to stand out. But I can honestly say that I had numerous moments to let my country be seen and recognised, and that in itself is an accomplishment. It also gave me knowledge about international pageants and hopefully I can use what I learned to improve the pageant industry in the Federation.”

Among the top 10 finalists of the Miss World Pageant was one of the Caribbean contestants in the person of Gina Hargitay from Jamaica.

The other contestants in the top 10 category were Miss Indonesia Vania Larissa, Miss Spain Elena Ibarbia, Miss Brazil Sancler Frantz Konzen, Miss Australia Erin Holland, Miss Nepal Ishani Shrestha and Miss England Kirsty Heslewood.

The top five finalists were chosen from that group, which also included Miss Brazil and Miss Spain.

The other sectional winners of the Miss World Pageant in leading up to the Grand Finale, which included Young’s Top Model award, saw Beauty with a Purpose - Miss Nepal Ishani Shrestha; Talent - Miss Indonesia Vania Larissa; Sportswoman - Miss Netherlands Jacqueline Steenbeek; Multimedia - Miss India Navneet Kaur Dhillo; Beach Fashion - Miss Brazil Sancler Frantz; and People Champion - Miss Gibraltar Maroua Kharbouch.
