BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, October 10th 2013 - TDC and Solaris Global Energy Limited completes its largest Photovoltaic Project in St. Kitts/Nevis

The TDC Group of Companies and its regional Corporate partner Solaris Global Energy Limited have disclosed the completion of its solar panel project.

The green initiative was finished late last month and saw the installation of the two hundred and eighty (280) panels at the site of the company’s largest retail outlet, TDC Home and Building Depot, on the Frigate Bay Road in St. Kitts.

To mark the completion and launch of the joint venture, a brief ceremony was held at the site to also coincide with the introduction of its Green Area, an in store display dedicated to renewable energy.

Mr. Glenville Jeffers, TDC Executive Director, gave an overview of the scheme and the steps taken to get the effort underway, following the announcement of concessions on energy saving products by the government.

In delivering his remarks at the event, Mr. Michael Morton, Group Chairman, emphasized the importance of the undertaking and its environmental impact.

“Today is indeed an historic day in the forty year existence of our Company.  The completion of this solar panel project will now enable the TDC Home and Building Depot to significantly reduce its electricity costs, as we seek to reduce our dependency on fossil fuels, as well as, our carbon footprint,” said Morton.

The Solaris Global Energy Limited Sales Executive, Mr. Edward Toppin, of the Barbados based business that provided the expertise and materials, spoke of his company’s pleasure in being involved with the endeavour and what it means for TDC and the public, at large.

“The installation of this large-scale photovoltaic system with TDC is exciting for us, especially since it provides a great example of the everyday application of renewable energy,” explained Toppin. “We expect this to be the beginning of ‘great things to come’ with TDC in St. Kitts and Nevis, as we grow our businesses, by offering products for commercial and residential use.”

TDC also received the commendation of the Ministry of Energy, who praised its ongoing efforts by Mr. Lenrick Lake, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy and Public Utilities.

“The Ministry of Energy is very pleased that TDC has taken the bold step to install PV panels on the TDC Home and Building Depot. This move is in keeping with our overall plans to get everyone involved in the renewable and sustainable energy campaign,” noted Mr. Lake.

Immediately following the remarks by Mr. Lake, the formal ‘flip of the switch’ was done to officially start the operation.  This was followed by a tour of the Green Area, where several demonstrations involving a variety of energy saving products were made by staff of the Electrical Services Unit.

The event was attended by other executive and non executive directors, senior managers of the TDC Group, representatives of Metropolitan Utilities Limited (the local firm who assisted with electrical expertise) and members of the press.
