BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AS the wheels of scholastic production continues to turn in St. Kitts and Nevis, another son of the soil has made himself, family members and the nation proud with his recent achievement at the University of the West Indies (UWI).

He is Duan Belle of Conaree Village, the son of Laverne Belle who, for the past 18 years, has been a member of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force.

The 25-year-old scholar had graduated from the UWI Open Campus in Grenada on Saturday (Oct. 12) with a First Class Honours degree in Accounting and had gained an impressive 3.92 Grade Point Average in the process.

Described as a humble young man, Belle’s education journey started in 1993 at the Louisa Grant Pre-school in Conaree Village, thence to Beach Allen Primary School where he was awarded Best Student in Mathematics at his Graduation Ceremony.

The 25-year-old gained his secondary education at the Basseterre High School (BHS) and in 2005 attained nine CXC subjects with five distinctions, three twos and a three in French.

Following his success at BHS, Belle opted for the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College and after completion of his two-year stint at that learning institution, he graduated in 2008 with eight ‘A’ Level subjects and was adjudged the Best Student in Information Technology.

In his quest for employment, Belle was very fortunate; for immediately after graduation he was employed as an Accounts Clerk at the TDC Group of Companies.

After working there for some two years, he craved for higher education and his superiors, seeing the quality he possesses and knowing that he would be an asset to the company, granted him study leave to attend the UWI.

In his advice to the young people in the Federation, Belle said, “Go after your dreams, no matter how difficult they may seem. You will encounter some problems and obstacles, of course, but once you identify the source of the problems solutions will follow. And as for obstacles, they can be crossed…you just have to remain focused on your set goals and employ a high degree of dedication and sacrifice. But most importantly, involve God in everything you intend do.”
