BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - PAST performer on the annual St. Kitts Music Festival, 28-year-old Tessanne Chin continues to advance in The Voice competition having outshone her opponent during Monday night’s (Oct. 28) two-hour Season Five Knockout Round premier aired on channel NBC.

She now moves on to perform on the Live Show finale segment of this US reality singing contest in hopes of winning the grand prize of a recording contract.

Monday night, the Jamaican songstress performed ‘Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)’ by Kelly Clarkson and won against fellow member of ‘Team Adam’ in the person of Ashley Dubose who sang ‘Hey Soul Sister’ by Train.

Competitors had to choose a song of their choice for the Knockout Round..

Adam Levine, in leading up to his pick of better singer, expressed that Chin and Dubose both “have aspirations as artistes”.

“...This is tough but it is time to move forward with the people who are the strongest right now, not the people who could be strongest next week and the people who are, in the position, I think, to win the whole thing. And the winner of this Knockout is Tessanne.”

Dubose was sent ‘home’ since none of the remaining judges - Christina Aguilera, CeeLo Green and Blake Sheldon - hit the ‘Steal’ button to include her on their respective teams.

The ‘Steal’ opportunity, for a first time, has been introduced in the Knockout segment and the celebrity voice coach judges now have the chance to grab a singer from another team during the performances leading up to the live shows.

Christina Aguilera, while making comments before the big announcement, praised Chin’s effortless performance.

“Kelly Clarkson...she is a great singer and you made it sound easy, and then you took it to a whole other level which was crazy. I can’t say enough,” she stated.

Meanwhile, CeeLo Green commended both singers for doing a great job and applauded Tessanne Chin for the “lioness kind of quality” she possesses, adding that he liked the way she “commanded the stage today”.

Speaking on camera after that Knockout segment, Tessanne Chin remarked, “My heart is beating so strong right now. I was nervous...I’m not gonna lie. I am super-excited. I can’t wait!”

Tessanne Chin made her debut performance at the annual St. Kitts Music Festival in 2007.

She was slated to return this year after the initial line-up was publicised. However, she was replaced by well-known Jamaican Reggae and Dancehall artiste Christopher Martin due to schedule conflict.

Many people are familiar with Tessanne Chin’s music, which include popular songs such as ‘Hide Away’, ‘Broken Melody’, ‘Messenger’ and ‘Never Let Me Go’ featuring Shaggy.

The Voice’s Knockout Rounds continued last night (Oct. 29) at 9:00 ET/PT on NBC and the results will be soon published.
