Applications still open for National Carnival Queen contestants

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - YOUNG ladies who are interested in entering the National Carnival Queen Pageant 2013-2014 still have the opportunity to do so, as the deadline for applications has been extended.

When contacted, Chairperson of the Pageant Committee Nisharma Rattan-Mack told this publication that the deadline, which was originally set for last week Monday (Oct. 28), has been extended and, while no set timeframe has been established, applications would close sometime this week.

She explained that the deadline was extended to accommodate more applicants, as they were unable to garner the response that the Committee anticipated.

"It was to end on the 28th (October), however, we did not get the response that we wanted so we said we'll extended it a little further into early next week."

With regards to the circulation of names and photos of persons who are said to be entering the pageant, Rattan-Mack said she is unaware from where the names came, adding that those young ladies are not the contestants.

The reigning National Carnival Queen, Zinga Imo, is appealing to young ladies interested in the show to go out and apply.

"I would just like to encourage the young girls to sign up for the Miss St. Kitts Pageant if you are thinking about it. Do not let anyone pull you down or tell you that you cannot do it, because you can do it. Once you put your mind to it and you are willing to practise and do whatever it takes, then you can go out onstage and put on a great show and become successful in the end."

Rattan-Mack advised that interested young ladies could pick up application forms at the Sands Complex office of the Carnival Committee Chairman, Sylvester Anthony.

She added that all information relevant to what is expected from the hopefuls would be stated on the forms.

Rattan-Mack indicated that the contestants would be launched at the most opportune time.
