Fantastic Thunder releases two songs for Sugar Mas

By: Loshaun Dixon, SKNVibes.com

BASSTERRE, St. Kitts - VETERAN calypsonians and soca artiste Fantastic Thunder has joined the small club of participants who have released their music for this year’s Sugar Mas.

The artiste, who is known for his play on words, released two tunes last week which he claimed he would be using at this year’s Soca Monarch Competition.

In an interview with SKNVibes, Fantastic Thunder said the songs are ‘Round Up Anthem’ and ‘I Love Noni’ and he gave a brief explanation of what they are addressing.

“’Round Up Anthem’ will be for the Groovy and ‘I Love Noni’ will be for the Power. The former is about the females who are not skinny but are also not fat; they are just between there. It is mainly for the girls in the Federation because a lot of them round up!

“Noni is good for everything. What I know is that it is very good for the joints. It’s good for infection but it’s just a catchy song for people to dance and like.”

Fantastic Thunder further claimed that the song has no sexual references and is genuinely a song about the fruit.

“It does not have a sexual connotation attached, but it is all about noni. People would think it has a sexual attachment...but it is not. People will think what they want to think.

“A line in the song says, ‘It has a funny taste and free up de waist’, so people would think that way. But actually it does have a funny taste and your waist has in a joint as well. People will always interpret things in their own way. The song promotes the noni fruit as a good thing for our health.”

Fantastic Thunder stated that he has been participating in the Sugar Mas Soca Monarch for the past two years and is confident of success this time around.

“I believe if I get the proper stage props and put in the proper energy, I should pull this thing off. There is always a controversy about judging in town and people from country, and they don’t look at us as they look at those from town.”

He is also set to release an album.

“The album contains six songs with a mix of groovy Soca power, Soca and reggae. This is my fourth album.”

Fantastic Thunder said that he wrote his first song when he was seven years old but started singing at age 15. He has also been competing in the calypso arena since 1997 and had won many community festival crowns.
