(Brooklyn, USA) - A musician with an Iranian rock band fatally shot three of his band mates and wounded another early Monday before turning the gun on himself, according to police in Brooklyn, New York.

News reports said the deceased were members of the Yellow Dogs, an indie group that formed several years ago in Tehran.

The musicians were found shot in the Brooklyn building where the band lived and rehearsed, according to New York media.

News reports said the shooter was found dead of a single gunshot wound on the roof of the building.

New York police confirmed various details of the tragedy.

"A male shot three victims, killing them," a police spokesman told AFP.

"It also appears that the shooter killed himself on the roof of that location."

The New York Daily News reported that the shooter had recently been kicked out of the group.

Officials so far have not released the names of the deceased, although "preliminarily, it appears to be members of the band," the police spokesman said.

"We cannot confirm that until the investigation is completed."

Various postings on the Yellow Dogs' Facebook page on Monday expressed shock and sadness.

"Horrible what's happened to you. RIP," wrote Roberta Rodriguez.

"A real tragedy. Rest in Peace lads," echoed James Goodall.
