Press Release

ST. JOHN'S Antigua, November 15th, 2013  --  Last week, in an official press release from the Executive Director of the Miss Plus Caribbean Universe 2013 Pageant, organisers made the difficult decision to postpone the event just three days before its November 10th scheduled production.

Details from the official press release revealed that the postponement was due to the industrial action taken by LIAT pilots, which ultimately affected many of the delegates travel arrangements. Rescheduled to this Sunday 17th November, Renee Edwards-Ambrose, the Antigua & Barbuda delegate, left on Thursday morning for Trinidad, where she and 10 other contestants will participate in preliminary activities over the next few days.

Currently employed at LIAT 1974 Ltd as an Aircraft Mechanic, Renee is a certified Private and Commercial Pilot, and a graduate of the Art Williams and Harry Wendt Aeronautical Engineering School in Georgetown Guyana, where she attained her Guyana Civil Aviation Engineering License.

She is also the owner of her own race car, and currently represents the country in Nevis at drag racing events put on by the Drag Racing Unit within the Ministry of Social Development in Nevis. Renee’s decision to enter the pageant was motivated by the opportunity to achieve another milestone while using the show’s platform to challenge society’s negative stereotypes of plus-size women.

The Miss Plus Caribbean Universe pageant aims to develop the self-esteem and confidence in young women across the Caribbean while shining a spotlight on the burgeoning plus-size fashion market. Founder and Executive Director, Pearl Williams, presented the inaugural pageant in Barbados last year where Sonja Pollonais, Miss Trinidad & Tobago walked away with the crown.

The participating countries in this year’s pageant are Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Brazil, Grenada, St Vincent & the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad, Tobago and USA. Miss Plus Caribbean Universe 2013 will be transmitted live to viewers across the region, from the Cascadia Hotel in St. Ann’s Trinidad, by CMC Television and www.comeseetv.com at 7pm on Sunday.
