National Carnival Queen contestants to be launched on Friday

By: Jenise Ferlance-Isaac, SKNVibes.com
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE suspense is almost over as the public will soon get a glimpse of the bevy of young beauties entering the National Carnival Queen Pageant.

Chairperson of the Pageant Committee Nisharma Rattan-Mack told this publication that the ladies who would be vying for the title have already been chosen and would be revealed to the public at the Official Opening of Carnival on Friday (Nov. 22).

For weeks the people have been questioning the secrecy surrounding the Pageant and why they were not hearing anything regarding who would be contesting.

Each year, as the Carnival season draws near, one of the most anticipated moments is when the announcement of those who would be entering the biggest Pageant in the twin-island Federation is made.

This year however, there was not much talk about the Pageant and, as time was winding down, people began questioning whether or not there would even be a show. And, if so, would the contestants have enough time to properly prepare themselves for an event of such prestige?

When asked why it has taken so long, Rattan-Mack told SKNVibes that the Committee was unable to gain the response expected by the original deadline, which was October 28, and that it was extended to accommodate more applicants.

A reliable source told this publication that the Committee had already selected the contestants before the first deadline, but due to unknown circumstances a number of them had pulled out.

Because of that, the deadline was extended by one week.

Rattan-Mack however declared that the contestants have been chosen and ready to be revealed, and she is encouraging all to go out on Friday to see the beauties who are vying for this year's title.

According to Carnival Committee Chairman Sylvester Anthony, the Official Opening would take the form of a Grand Street Parade in Basseterre.
