Small Axe to release album tonight

By: Jenise Ferlance-Isaac, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - FANS of the 'Sweetest Band in the World’, the Small Axe, will not have to wait much longer as the Band will be dropping its 2013-2014 Carnival album tonight (Dec. 3).

The release would be on ZIZ Radio at 9:00 p.m.

Speaking with Marketing Manager Gary Thomas, he explained to this publication that the band had been working on the album for a few months and its members are enthusiastic about the release.

"We have been working on this album for the past several months. We have been putting the finishing touches on it over the last few days and we are very excited about what we have and we think people will like it as well."

Thomas said the fans could look forward to "Small Axe with a modern twist".

"This is different! This album has a range of songs and music. We have departed a little bit from what we are used to. We are still the core of how we sound and what we are like as a band. Our distinct sound is still there but we have tried to modernise and use different elements in constructing the beats and arranging the music.

"We think people will like it. It is fresh, it is different, it is still Small Axe but it is new and I think it will stand out this year." Thomas explained.

Thomas said that the band would not be releasing as early as they usually do, which is sometime in November, but they consider tonight's release to be early as "it gives us three and a half weeks before we get to J'Ouvert, which is the middle of the season".

"We are always working and trying to come out by mid-November the latest, and that is our objective for next year. That is what we will be working on for next year," he said.

Thomas told this publication that the band would be playing for Solid Mas Camp on Parade Day and "we would be jamming with our own troupe, the Buccaneers Troupe, in collaboration with Shiggidy Shack for J'Ouvert".

He expressed that the band is looking forward to the Carnival season, as it would have its plate filled with events.

He said that the band is "pretty confident" about taking the Road March title again this year, adding that Small Axe has "mad respect" for the other bands.

With regards to copywriting, Thomas said that it would take a collaborated effort to dissuade persons from duplicating bands’ and artistes’ songs, but added that Small Axe does its part in trying to discourage the practice.

"You would hope that persons support all the bands and all the artistes and not necessarily go out and duplicate. But be that what it may, we do try to discourage and we to try to appeal to persons' moral conscience to support the local bands and artistes.

"It will take a collaborative effort to try to enforce it and try to discouraging persons from carrying on that practice. It is a challenge but we try to encourage persons not to do it and to support all the guys."
