Could we see two International Beauty Queens from SKN in 2014?

BASSETERRE St Kitts – WITHOUT a doubt, the 2013/2014 National Carnival Queen Show was more than a pageant showcasing local beauty and talent, but, also a reminder of the level of pageantry the Federation possesses.

The National Carnival Pageant has been the signature event of the festive season that sees one young lady beginning the life of a cultural icon, while at the same time being the most talented, smart and beautiful woman of the Federation.

In addition to the national fame, glamour, and the chance to make a difference in the lives of young people through her personal platform, the queen gets the opportunity to compete in regional pageants throughout her reign.

We have done remarkably well in regional pageants. For example, the now former National Carnival Queen Zinga Imo, who placed First Runner-up in the Miss Carnival Pageant held in St. Vincent earlier this year.

The former beauty queen also competed in the Miss Jaycees Caribbean Pageant as well as in the Miss Jamzone International Pageant held in Guyana in August of this year.

Imo is just one example of the many Carnival beauty ambassadors to participate in a number of regional pageants and made St. Kitts and Nevis proud.

The recently concluded National Carnival Queen Pageant showcased women from different walks of life competing to be the Federation’s most beautiful woman.

The elegance, beauty, brains and modelling skills of First runner-up Yarayni Morton was something to look at more than what she did onstage.

From her introductory speech to her excellent response to the final question and talent piece proved that this one a kind beauty could make a remarkable Miss World representative next year.

As we make an effort almost every year to send a beauty to Miss World, why can’t we do the same for Miss Universe?

It is no doubt that the Federation has beauty and expertise to see two queens off to international shows, but it all has to do with sponsorship and support from entities in the Federation.

But, let us look at the reigning National Carnival Queen, Kaeve Armstrong. What a remarkable woman! But could she be the first one from our Federation since 1979 to be a beauty ambassador at the upcoming Miss Universe Pageant next year in Venezuela?

Based on research, the last beauty to have represented the Federation was a woman by the name of Cheryl Chaderton back in 1979 in Perth, Australia.

We then had another ambassador of beauty in Annette Emelda Frank, who won the Miss St. Kitts and Nevis Universe title back in 1977 and moved on to represent the Federation.

Both women are past National Carnival Queen title holders.

Like we said in a previous publication, in the past the Caribbean had twice won the title. But could Miss St. Kitts and Nevis Universe 2014 make the Federation proud by winning the prestigious title? That is a question only the local franchise holders can answer, if there is any.
