What Kittitians say about Sugar Mas’ 42

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AS the curtains came down on what some people considered another successful Carnival celebration, SKNVibes Entertainment went into downtown Basseterre to ask persons about their thoughts on this year’s festivity.

Interviewed were six people who declined to state their names but agreed to be identified by their occupations.

    Their responses are as follow:

Carpenter: “To me it didn’t have many people like last year in the bands, but it was more exciting this year. But one thing I want to point out is the route where they had to go. At one time the bands clash at one intersection, and I think that the Carnival committee should change the routes next time.”

Teacher: “If you take away the bad weather we had this season, I think Carnival would have been better. We had bad weather in the past but it was not like this at all. I mean we had to postpone and cancel events; that money could have been invested for something to better this Federation.”

Entrepreneur: “I disagreed with the International Night Concert totally because it was like they bringing back Music Festival into Carnival. Soon as I heard that the show was cancelled I told my sister that it was a good thing we didn’t go. My only question is who refunding those persons who spent a large amount of cash to look all fabulous for the show.”

Labourer: “Without a doubt Carnival was great this year! I was in the Small Axe Band last year, but based on what I see this year I kinda regret it. But it was exciting and the colours too were amazing. I can’t wait to get back in the jam later this year.”

Hairdresser: “Well, apart from the cheating and personal gains of things, I think the only part of this whole season that actually made an impact on our Federation is the Parade Day and the Las Lap. But I suggest to the bands that got this rivalry going on to put aside their differences on the final walk of Carnival and come together as one to show people what Carnival is really about. Is we thing.”

Electrical Engineer: “My kids could not stop bugging about me taking them to Parade Day this year because they were not here last year for it. But, to me, it could have been better planned. Not saying it wasn’t, but we had a late start and we had big gaps between the bands. What I could commend the Carnival Committee for is the security approach they took. From the Marshals to the soldiers on the ground, I think these people must be commended for their hard work in ensuring that we had no mishaps.”
