Hector to step down as SKCA President

Auckland Hector

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - PRESIDENT of the St. Kitts Cricket Association, Auckland Hector is set to resign from that post at the end of this month after being elected President of the Leeward Islands Cricket Association (LICA).

Hector, a former Leeward and Combine Islands wicketkeeper, was last month (Dec. 2013) elected LICA’s President and will serve in that capacity for the next two years.

Speaking with SKNVibes Sports, Hector gave his reasons for stepping down as SKCA’s President, citing a personal view rather than a constitutional declaration for the decision.

“It will not be the correct thing for me to serve as President of the SKCA and also the President of the Leeward Islands Cricket Association. The Constitution does not speak as to whether I can or cannot do it. This is a personal view and therefore I will resign my position as President of the St. Kitts Cricket Association at the Annual General Meeting on January 30.”

He then highlighted some of the achievements he attained while in office.

“The main achievement is the fact that the St. Kitts Cricket Association now has a positive balance on their finances. When I took over the leadership it was in the red. There were a number of individuals that we were indebted to...they were paid out and we are now having a substantial credit balance.

“We were also able to attract sponsorship. We have had the Development Bank sponsor the Premier League. They have indicated that they will continue the sponsorship for the year 2014. We were also able to obtain the sponsorship of Nagico Insurance for the One Day Tournament. We are hopeful that they will be able to sponsor the tournament for 2014, and we are in the process of completing the 2013 tournament over the next two weekends.

“We had some setbacks as far as that is concerned; in that the association hosted the West Indies U-19 here in St. Kitts and during that period most of the major grounds were unavailable to accommodate the matches.”

Hector however expects that the Vice President of the SKCA would take over the vacant post.

“I would expect that the present Vice President, Stanley Franks, will take on the responsibilities of the presidency.”

Hector has been at the helm of the SKCA since 2012.
