New rules and changes for Sugar Mas’43…says Carnival Chairman

Carnival Chairman - Sylvester Anthony
By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IT is safe to say that although the curtains just came down on what is considered to be another successful year of Carnival, Sugar Mas’ 43 is well underway and new rules as well as changes have already taken full effect.

Chairman of the Carnival Committee Sylvester Anthony, in brief remarks concerning the overview of this year’s celebration, said that some of the initiatives set out by the group were successful while others failed.

“Some of them didn’t work but we are going to try them again this year. I want to tell you that we have much more in store for Sugar Mas’43. So as we close the curtains today on Sugar Mas’ 42, we begin to lift the curtains on Sugar Mas’ 43.”

He opined that last season’s Carnival celebration was the best, adding that new Sugar Mas’ Secretariat, located on Victoria Road downstairs of Radio SKN, would remain open throughout the year until the next season.

“Another announcement I will like to make is that the Carnival Calendar of Events for Sugar Mas’ 43 will be released very shortly…within the next 10 days. So all private sector persons who wish to have activities, you will have enough time to plan your fundraisers,” the Chairman said.

Anthony also said that for this year, a number of deadlines would be set for parties and persons who intend to participate in the various Sugar Mas’ 43 activities.

“In other words, if you are a band, a troupe, an artiste who plans to take part in our Road March, Calypso, or any other competition, we are going to be setting some deadlines for you to register and to release whatever song or what other bands you intend to take part in.”

He added that the stated deadlines would be set in a few weeks’ time and they would be announced very shortly. “You can still release your songs if you want in November but they will not be part of the Sugar Mas Competitions.”

“Everyone can begin to organise themselves early. Don’t wait until November! And no longer will you be able to say that you were waiting to know what the Carnival programme is or was”, Anthony said.
