Junior Achievement Press Release

    JANUARY 21st, 2014  --  Seventy (70) students from eight high schools gathered on Saturday 18th January, 2014 at the Maltin Moving Centre at the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank to participant in a Financial Reporting Seminar as part of their training series for the Junior Achievement Company Program. The subjects covered prepare students, who have now formed companies, to be better able to create thorough accounts for their companies.
     
    Representatives from the Bank of Nova Scotia, one of the local sponsors of the Junior Achievement Programme over the last nine plus years, were present. Mr Carlton Pogson, Relationship Manager for Corporate & Commercial at Scotia Bank illuminated the students about the banking and accounting processes, clearly illustrating how they complement and rely on each other.

    Mr Pogson’s thorough and lively presentation covered the design and use of financial reports, including Balance Sheets, Income & Expenditure and Cash Flow Statement as well as Retained Earnings Reports. These are the main elements which form the assessment of their Financial Reports at the end of this cycle of the JA Company Programme in May 2014.

    Executive Director of Junior Achievement St Kitts & Nevis, Mrs Tracey Herbert indicated that; “Every effort is being made to ensure that the students are exposed to real-life knowledge of what it is like to run a successful business. It is always our hope that the participants are able to use this JA experience to ready themselves for entrepreneurship.”

    Ms Annette Lestrade, Bank of Nova Scotia Branch Manager at Fort Street, also encouraged the students to grasp every opportunity to prepare for their future and expressed her satisfaction with the existence of the Programme.

    This Saturday 25th January, further financial reporting training will be given in the area of the use of accounting software.

    2014 marks the tenth year of the Junior Achievement Programme in the Federation.
