SKNABA commits to “ball for all” programme

By: SKNABA, Press Release

Basketball City, St.Kitts Janury 27th 2014(SKNABA) - General Secretary of the St.Kitts-Nevis Amateur Basketball Association Mr. Wallis Wilkin has announced an initiative that will seek to provide every SKNABA Club/Team with at least one basketball.  The initiative or programme has been labeled “BALL FOR ALL”.  According to the SKNABA General Secretary the programme will specifically be geared towards ensuring that every single team in the SKNABA has a ball to practice with.

“The idea of providing balls to every team is not new to sports internationally or even regionally . Even locally the SKNFA may have embarked on a similar programme before.  Persons may not believe it but there are many teams in the SKNABA who do not have a ball. In most if not many cases the balls that are used by teams for practice are often owned by players and in some cases there are teams that do not have balls period whether a ball owned by a player or a team ball.

This initiative will seek to ensure that at a minimum every single team in the SKNABA will have at least one ball of their own,” said SKNABA General Secretary Wallis Wilkin  Wilkin continued “This is an initiative that the SKNABA Executive has discussed and one that the President  Tobias has given me the green light to spearhead and pursue.

I will be approaching businesses, individuals, past players and international sporting organizations. In fact I have made initial contact with a number of North American based and European organizations who have responded and are excited about the initiative and have committed to giving some support to the programme in either donating balls or assisting in the procurement of the balls,” Wilkin expressed confidence that a goal of at least 30 balls which will cover at least all of the registered teams in the SKNABA will be achieved by the end of the 2014 season.

“It is an  initiative that teams, clubs and players are excited about and it is one that I as General Secretary will give my commitment to pursuing successfully. The ideal and ultimate goal and conclusion of this programme would be to provide almost every registered player with their own ball. Providing every player may sound ambitious but it is a goal that should be strived for. However we will start with providing all the teams by the end of 2014 and then the greater goal of balls for every player can be vigorously pursued thereafter , ” General  Secretary Wilkin concluded.

Similar programmes have been pursued in the past with little success. However with General Secretary Wilkin’s personal commitment to successfully spearhead and pursue this initiative the SKNABA expects greater success in the programme.
