BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - AFTER months of work to make the Warner Park Cricket Stadium one of the top facilities in the Caribbean, the task has been completed with the facility being equipped with floodlights in order to facilitate night cricket.

In a Cabinet press conference held on Wednesday (Feb. 20), Minister of Sports the Hon. Glen Phillip was asked about an update on the work at the facility and declared that the work is complete.

Information which was released to this publication was that, within the Cricket Stadium in Warner Park, four poles were to have been erected, each of which would be fitted with 72 lights. Additionally, a jumbotron was to have been installed which would had fed four video screens - one each for the four poles.

“The Warner Park facility it is completed. We have had certain minor issues that had developed last week and will be eliminated during this weekend when the engineers return.”

The lights are expected to get their debut in March, 2014 when the Leeward Islands are scheduled to battle Jamaica in a day/night cricket encounter.

“On March 7 2014 we will be having our first day/night game - it’s Leeward Islands versus Jamaica. The game will start at 2:00 in the afternoon and it goes down until 10:00,” Minister Phillip said.

He also stated that the scheduling of that game by the WICB is a show of confidence in the government of St. Kitts and Nevis.

“The match on March 7...it was scheduled since December to be played here and this is why it is important...because the lights wasn't completed, we had some challenges and I think that the WICB had full confidence in the government’s ability to deliver on a number one project.”
