Set Yourself Self for Black San’ Bang-A-Lang TRACTORCADE!

By: Black San, Press Release

Sandy Point, St. Kitts and Nevis (March 18, 2014): Black San’ Bang-A-Lang 2014 is less than 30 days away and this year’s chant ‘SET U SELF is already making the rounds as Sandy Point prepares to host its fourth annual community festival.

The young festival has become a fixture on the national calendar of events, and with this year’s exciting promotional videos and minor, yet significant tweaks to the festival geared towards engaging community participation, organizers have promised a real blast!

‘’We are a few weeks away from the start of the festival and the excitement level has already began to make its climb! Every week for the past two months we’ve been hosting weekend events dubbed ‘Proper Fix Up’ with a strong feature of our local bands, djs and artistes and we are hoping that the energy would carry over to the Tractor-cade, our first event and right down to the Last Lap” said Amos Francis Tractor-Cade Coordinator

The 2014 festival is set to run from April 12th to May 3rd and is packed with the signature events that Black San’ has become known for, as well as new events to excite and include all! The streets comes alive on Saturday April 12th with Tractors pulling carts displaying animals & farm produce, along with revelers creatively dressed in farm wear in promotion of the buying and eating of local produce.

“As part of the mandate of our Agriculture and Environmental Conservation pillar it is our duty to highlight the importance of our local farmers not only to our economy but the health of our society.  That is why we continue to reach out to the Ministry of Agriculture and all Schools to get the young students involved as TRACTOR-CADE is a unique way of celebrating our farmers!” Francis said.

Saturday-afternoon’s street warm up will set the stage for the Grand Opening at Pump Bay later in the evening. Followed by The Rams Sponsored Seven Seas Elderly Appreciation onboard the St. Kitts Scenic Railway on Sunday 13th April  and rolls right into a fiery  two-day basketball festival with some of SPABA’s and SKABA’s greatest facing off!

The highly anticipated SPIRIT Game Show on April 17th which features the ‘Rams Price is Right’, ‘Minute to Win It’ and newly added ‘Couples Game’ and the first ever ‘BLACK SAN’ Football Cup’ on Good Friday will wind that week up in preparation for Saturday night’s SKNVibes Appleton Knockshore Night on April 19th – set to be one of the biggest Black San’ events this year! But this is just the opener to an explosive weekend! The next few days will see three action-pumping, high octane events starting with the fourth installment of the LIME Miss Black San’ Swimsuit Pageant on Sunday April 20th – that promises to be a scorcher! Followed by the J’ouvert Jump-up and Beach Jam on April 21st.

The festival’s final weekend wraps up with the ‘LOL Night of Comedy, DRAMA & Poetry’ event on Wednesday April 23rd which will make way for the Black San Last Lap Street Party on Saturday, April 26.

SPIRIT PRO Che-Raina Warner said this year’s festival builds on the previous year’s successes and that patrons can expect the same safe, clean fun with much more excitement!

‘’This year’s theme ‘SET U SELF’ is really street jargon for ‘GET READY!  We are once again attempting to bring people from all over together to enjoy the festival, and we want to build on that by including events that we think would reach very different audiences but promote the very same ideals. One of the changes we’ve made is to convert what was traditionally a ‘Costume Parade’ into a ‘Last Lap Street Fete’ where regular people can come out and have fun with us without having to meet the huge price tags of extravagant costumes etc. A ‘T-Shirt mass’ if you may.’’ Warner said.

There are still lots of opportunities for new sponsors, private donors and community groups to come onboard. Or better yet, be ahead of the game and get involved by searching ‘Sandy Point SPIRIT’ on Facebook, Youtube or Twitter, and let us know what you expect for this year’s festival.
