All J-League Teams and players invited to be a part of historic occasion
March 28th, 2014 -- The Queen's Baton Relay, similar to the Olympic Torch Relay, is a relay around the world held prior to the beginning of the Commonwealth Games. The Baton carries a message from the Head of the Commonwealth, currently Queen Elizabeth II. The Relay traditionally begins at Buckingham Palace in London as a part of the city's Commonwealth Day festivities. The Queen entrusts the baton to the first relay runner. At the Opening Ceremony of the Games, the final relay runner hands the baton back to the Queen or her representative, who reads the message aloud to officially open the Games.
The St.Kitts-Nevis leg of this worldwide relay takes place on Friday March 28th. The Baton which will be accompanied by media from around the world including BBC and the Associated Press will be making a number of stops at various points in the federation. Basketball City , the home of Basketball in the federation is one of those stops. The baton will be making it’s official stop at Basketball City on Friday Morning at 10am sharp.
The SKNABA is hoping to feature our J our young up coming basketball stars through our J-League Teams and Players. Thus ALL J-League Teams have been invited to send their FULL Teams to be represented at the event at Basketball City. Teams that are fully represented will be hopefully be featured on video and photo which will be carried on BBC and Worldwide via the Commonwealth Games page and other International Media outlets including the website. https://www.glasgow2014.com/
A short pick up game between J-League and U25 All Star players is being cordinated by National Coach BJ Mumford to coincide with the brief but historic visit to Basketball City.
The Relay is expected at Basketball City at 10am .
