BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – MINISTER of Sports Hon. Glen Phillip has promised track and field fans in St. Kitts and Nevis that a jumbotron would be installed at the Silver Jubilee Stadium by July of this year.

In his remarks at the opening of the 2014 TDC Inter-School Championships Friday night (Mar. 28), President of the St. Kitts Nevis Amateur Athletic Association (SKNAAA) Glen Jeffers called on the Minister to construct a jumbotron at the Stadium.

“A Jumbo-tron would be a very nice addition right next to the athletes’ village, especially if we decide to host CARIFTA 2015,” Jeffers said.

In response, Minister Phillip told the gathering that a jumbotron would be present when the SKNAAA hosst the OECS Championships in July.

“He tried to put me on the spot...but what I will guarantee to track fans is that the OECS Championships will be held here in July of this year and the jumboptron will be here at the Silver Jubilee Stadium,” Phillip promised.

The Sports Minister’s promise was acknowledged with a rousing applause by the audience.

A jumbotron is a large-screen television typically used in sports stadiums and concert venues to show close-up shots of the event.
