BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Federation’s Football Technical Director, Lenny Lake, is expected to be a coaches’ instructor in Antigua and Barbuda when that country will be hosting a CONCACAF ‘D’ License Course next month.

According to an article on CONCACAF’s website, Lake, who is a CONCACAF Development Officer, will be joined by Joseph Supe, who coached the Cayman Islands at the CONCACAF Women’s Under-20 Championship earlier this year, to conduct the course.

The article further stated that varying topics would be addressed, including: Coaching Principles, Training by Age, Fundamentals of Planning Training Sessions, Physical Training and Health and Security.

The CONCACAF initiative is welcomed by Everton Gonsalves, President of the Antigua & Barbuda Football Association (ABFA).

“The educating of our coaches is always top priority for us and we are so happy that President Jeff Webb and our colleagues at CONCACAF have decided to put out this course,” expressed Gonsalves. “We are looking forward for full registration so that we can continue the good job of further developing football in Antigua & Barbuda.”

Gonsalves believes that the continued availability of similar courses is the key to improving the game in the Caribbean.

“As the jingle says, education is the key to life (and) if you want to continuously develop, if you want to make headway and if you want to stand in a strong position you cannot afford not to have a sound education,” he stressed. “I know President Webb and CONCACAF have been doing an excellent job in terms of looking at the yearly calendar and making sure that education is felt and not only seen in those areas.

“The AFBA has advocated education for such a long time now that it is a very important and salient feature of our administration and we are more than happy to always provide education, not only to coaches but to administrators.”

The course will take place in May 8-11 at the Antigua Recreation Ground in St. John’s.

Lake was appointed a FIFA Grassroots Instructor in 2011 and is the first Kittitian to have held that appointment. St. Kitts is one of only two Caribbean countries to boast Grassroots Instructors; Trinidad is the other.
