April 9, 2014 - The Virgin Islands Fire and Rescue Department is conducting a thorough investigation to determine the origin and exact cause of the fire that destroyed the Treehouse Night Club and the Spaghetti Junction Restaurant on Wickham’s Cay I.

According to the Chief Fire Officer, Mr. Zebalon McLean, the department received the first call from a passerby at 3:01 a.m. on April 8 and officers responded immediately.

Mr. McLean explained that a live electrical wire caused a minor delay, however, the fire officers were able to get the fire contained and put out in a timely manner. Additionally, fire officers evacuated yachts adjacent to the burning building to avoid sustaining any damages.

Mr. McLean commended his officers on a job well done as they contained the fire from spreading to neighbouring buildings.

“I will like to sincerely thank the officers from the Beef Island fire station for assisting with putting out the fire and the electricity corperation for their assistance in managing the power supply to the buildings,” Mr. McLean expounded.

The Virgin Islands Fire and Rescue Department’s mission is to protect life and property from the ravages of the fire and other natural and manmade disasters.
