BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – FIVE men were today (Apr. 10) charged in connection with the two bales of compressed marijuana found aboard a vessel at the Marina at Port Zante yesterday afternoon.

A police communiqué gave the names of the five men as Wasim Richards of Ramsbury, Nevis; Damion Jeffers of Pond’s Pasture, St. Kitts; Jermaine Pemberton of New Castle, Nevis; Kemroy Simmonds of Hermitage Village, Nevis; and Robert Gregory Roberts of Stoney Grove, Nevis.

The communiqué stated that the men were “formally arrested and charged for the offences of Possession of Cannabis and Possession of Cannabis With Intent To Supply, which were committed on 9th April 2014”.

It also stated that Commissioner of Police Celvin ‘GG’ Walwyn “takes this opportunity to thank all those persons who were involved in this operation for the role played, and encourage all civic minded individuals to continue to support the Law Enforcement Bodies in the discharge of their duties by reporting criminal activities, and suspicious activities and persons to the authorities”.

At about 1:30 p.m. yesterday, law enforcement officers had launched an intelligence-led operation which unearthed two bales of compressed marijuana aboard a vessel that was moored at the Port Zante’s marina.

According to Police Press and Public Relations Officer Inspector Lyndon David, police had received information that a vehicle had arrived at the Marina and dropped off a package on the vessel.

He also stated that the driver of the vehicle was unable to leave the area after the delivery and was intercepted and subsequently arrested.

The PRO said that the operation was conducted by members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force and the St. Kitts-Nevis Customs and Excise Department.

He however did not disclose how much the bales of marijuana weighed, the street value and who owns the vessel within which the illegal drugs were found.
