Conclusions of the IX Monitoring and Selection Committees of the Interreg Caraïbes IV programme in Saint-Martin

    April 04th, 2014  --  Mrs. Josette BOREL LINCERTIN, President of the Regional Council of Guadeloupe, the management authority of the INTERREG Caraïbes cooperation programme, presided over the monitoring and selection committees of the mechanism in presence of the Ambassador with responsibility for regional cooperation in the Caribbean, Presidents of the Regional Councils of Martinique and French Guiana, the President of the Territorial Council of Saint-Martin, the Prefectures, the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), the Caribbean Export Development Agency (CEDA) and representatives of the European Commission.
     
    The convening of these committees was an opportunity to demonstrate the benefits for the French territories and for the wider Caribbean of innovative and exemplary projects such as:
     
    CaribcomX, led by the Dauphin Telecom company, regarding the networking of Caribbean telephone operators in order to reduce the costs of communication,
     
    the establishment of an inter-Caribbean HIV observatory led by the Pointe-à-Pitre University Hospital,
     
    the project led by the Office of Tourism of Sainte-Marie in Martinique, on the enhancement and promotion of the shared cultural patrimony of the Caribbean,
     
    the “72 hour autonomy” project led by the Red Cross regarding the first steps to be taken while awaiting the arrival of relief in the event of a major disaster, particularly in isolated communities.
     
    It was also the opportunity to debrief on:
     
    the advancement of work regarding the future INTERREG programme for the period 2014/2020,
     
    the imminent accession of Guadeloupe and Martinique to regional cooperation organisations in the zone,
     
    the advancement of arrangements for the interaction of financial instruments between the European Development Fund (EDF) and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
     
    The selection and monitoring committees also pronounced their opinion on opportunities for the financing of projects related to issues as varied as the structuring of the fashion industry, the establishment of a mechanism for the appointment of territorial diplomats, the capitalisation of contributions from the diaspora and the establishment of a health observatory.
