St Kitts Marriott Resort & Royal Beach Casino represents spirit to serve

Press Release

Marriott’s St Kitts Hotel demonstrates Marriot International’s “Spirit to Serve” philosophy through community partnerships.

Basseterre, St. Kitts – Since opening their doors in early 2003, the St. Kitts Marriott Resort & the Royal Beach Casino has embraced Marriott’s Pledge: “We pledge that every Marriott community will be a better place to live and work because we are there”.

Six 2nd year students from AVEC (Advanced Vocational Educational Center) spent the entire month of March at the resort preparing for their venture into the world of full-time employment. Students were deployed to different areas of the resort based on the focus of their studies.

Currently there are ten students of the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant (CFB) at the resort as the resort seeks to undertake it’s ninth partnership with the college. The annual event assists in training the future hospitality industry leaders of St Kitts/Nevis. This St. Kitts hotel has supported the efforts of the local hospitality college throughout the years and will continue with this joint venture throughout 2014. The ten students will learn the formula for success in the hospitality industry while being assisted with the practical elements of their studies in pursuance of an Associate’s Degree in Hospitality.

“Developing young talent on the island in any way that we can is a very important part of us living the Marriott company values and at the St Kitts Marriott Resort we are extremely proud to be able to give the Gen Y workforce those important first steps before embarking in to the full time employment world with their individual career choices. Everyone needs a starting point and having the opportunity to taste the industry at Marriott is the very best grounding a young person can have,” says Fiona Lowe, Director of Human Resources. “We are passionate with our endeavors to support the AVEC initiative and the students with their experiences as they will be part of the Resort and the hospitality industry’s future success on the island.”

Marriott International has a proud tradition of supporting the cities, towns and neighborhoods around the globe that it calls home. “Spirit to Serve” is an intensely hands-on philosophy, based on a 75 year legacy of supporting the communities where it does business.

Not only is this St. Kitts and Nevis hotel  supporting this local institution, but numerous educational facilities around the island have also benefited of the resort’s generosity. So far in 2014 the Washington Archibald High School have been beneficiaries of our donation of trophies and refreshments to support their annual 2014 sports day and throughout the rest of the year other forms of Spirit to Serve activities are planned.
